Random maps have always been rather un-random. Had two best of seven series' start recently and both had a double map.

well, there are only 387 maps on the site, so this makes absolute sense...-Jésus noir

Or we do understand the concept and just suspect that the system isn't configured correctly, just like the dice.

If I play 1000 games with a random map and all of them come out to be the same map, that's still random

If you assume the system determining the random map is correct, yes.

I agree with you and actually was going to say the same thing that its just like the dice. I don't play random games too much so not so much an issue for me but it sounds like it needs fixing. 8-)

Well, we already know how the dice are generated and that doesn't sound very random to me. You won't hear me complain though, because I lost two unimportant games thanks to dice, but won a tournament final with great dice. It's what happens and it's equal for all (I think, not much of an expert on this matter), so I don't care the slightest bit. But... my limited amount of knowledge on the concept of randomness tells me that even if it might come close to randomness, it isn't as random as random can be. I used that last part of the sentence in a symbolic way, before someone points out that randomness doesn't have degrees of it, it just is or it isn't. You get my point, I hope. Repetitiveness that you know is gonna happen is not random by definition.
Now if the dice are not random, why would be believe the maps are? That makes no sense at all.

I'm not saying I'm right, but I feel I do. This being a forum and all, it seemed like a good idea to give my view on it. Also, in my opinion this is a nonproblem, because a very small (like, tiny) percentage of CC-members care about this/notice this. If this is the easiest way to produce Random Maps, they have my blessing.

Maybe they should just rename it to ALMOST RANDOM MAP.

I do remember thinking a long while back that it seemed like the random maps would get stuck on a map or two (not completely but it would pop up more) and then move on to another map. At the time me and someone else who was also going for a random map medal noticed it and we just assumed the site would bump up the chance of a map being selected. Maybe if they saw a map wasn't being played much and they wanted to promote the map. While I doubt now that my theory then was true, I would be completely fine with it if it was. I have been playing random a lot more lately and haven't had the same map twice at all since I started playing again.

I'm glad owenshooter allowed this discussion to continue even though it's been discussed before :D I started my anti thread after seeing his nosey ass in here right up as the second post. Really because I literally thought, "Don't bother with the forums, Lawson. You're just gonna stumble on that ahole and get yourself pissed again" And then I click on one link and, Bingo.

BTW, I pretty much agree completely with this:
