What is CC's position on using the Confederate Flag on maps and also on users that present it in their avatars and names?

This is probably one of those cases where CC's stance should be, it is dumb and racist and also entirely allowed.

Stupid Question. Brazil took way more slaves than the US ever did, so I think we should ban Rodion from the scoreboard for the flag on his profile.

So fair question: Is the swastika allowed as an avatar on CC? Can you have a name that refers to Nazis, their party, and their members thereof? If the answer is "yes", then this thread is probably done; but if the answer is "no" then CC should explain their position on this matter and why they seclude the use of the Nazi flag...yet supports the use of the Confederate Navy Jack beings that it is regarded as a symbol of hate and racism among many.

Only the ignorant consider it as such. The Confederate Flag represents the rights of states to secede. It is one of the most fundamental principles of the American Revolution and yet it was shit on by the North. Lincoln didn't give a f*ck about blacks, they were just a useful pawn, exactly how the Democrats treat them today.

If you want to talk about black rights, or any human rights for that matter, the right to bear arms would be a good place to start.

this is one of those moments where you should clarify if you are speaking for yourself or for team CC... you sound wholly ignorant and it is appalling that you do not realize that the confederate flag is one of the most hated racist symbols in america. within a year, it will be wiped from the face of america, just as all nazi symbols were erased/eradicated from germany. the confederate flag is a symbol of racism and hatred. years ago i made an argument for it's removal and i was told to grow up, it is not racist. kind of funny how the tides have turned now... as far as the flag on historical maps on CC, that is an entirely different situation, because it is historical. just as the nazi symbols are used on historical flags. however, it won't be long before flying the confederate flag in yoru avatar or in your sig, etc, will not be allowed... they are coming down all over the south and it is about time. the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

Why is the Brazilian flag not equally hated? Or the flag of Spain whose Carribbean colonies imported far more slaves than the United States ever did? How about the naval ensignias which the British Navy still used?

Anytime somebody gets all whipped up over a symbol, they are no longer thinking straight. This is what has happened with the Confederate flag.

For 400 years, the Fetha Nagast, or Ethiopian Law of Kings (akin to the Ethiopian Constitution) had legal slavery. For millenia Ethiopia was one of the most advanced African nations, and during this time, they were the most advanced. They used slavery as a matter of course. So did hundreds of countries around the world throughout history. To make states seceding a slavery issue, and then to make slavery a racial issue is such a gross misappropriation of the history of the world. Big Brother says jump, and you jump.

^Yes, this. It's the fundamental problem with censorship. If "A" should be censored, then you can make an equal argument about B, C and D being censored too. Almost everything can be considered offensive by somebody if they think hard enough about it.

That's my key argument. Eliminating a symbol isn't going to stop racism. Racism is begotten out of ignorance, so education is the only solution. Promoting illusory claims about false history is the exact opposite of what will help the ongoing problem of Joe Dirt thinking that black people are inferior.

Yes, and anyone who isn't ignorant of history knows that the secession issue was completely causally unconnected from the slavery issue.

It doesn't matter why you want to secede. States should not be stopped from doing so.

Hey in sweden the schools did the stupid thing and banned viking symbols: runes, mjolnir, and so on cause the brown parties used them in propaganda... way to go the morons have stolen every symbol (including the swastika) and defiled them beyond redemption in most cases so why not give away a part of our history for them to corrupt ...

As i (a non us citizen) understand it the confederate flag were the symbol that the south fought the north beneath ... slavery were one of the excuses for the war. Again as i a non us citizen understand it it wasnt the real issue for the war ... and as have been previously stated brazil took more slaves by far than the US ...
The symbol is an important part of history, i for one belive it wrong to let it go into the hands of the wrong people!

oddly enough, one of the first to take a stand was the studio behind that damn show/car... they immediately stopped the sale of all Dukes of Hazzard and General Lee toys/cars, etc, that had the confederate flag... ha!-Jn
