some changes got made by el jefe or lack that left a sour taste in the mouths of those who played.

What were the changes? Let's try and get things undone as well as done..

? I don't really know, but what I know is that since we have the new servers, I still have lag issues.
I'm in Paris, really close to my provider's knot and with real good internet; yet it's sucky when it comes to conquer club. I know that some other french guys living in other cities that should have a suckier internet have a better conection than me, I don't get it.

I believe you're mistaken.

About the only significant change that was made was to allow shorter times than the original 5 minutes, and that change was quite popular.

Now, freestyle speed players were made very unhappy by the various changes in freestyle rules, but that has nothing to do with the speed setting and everything to do with the freestyle setting, so this thread is really barking up the wrong tree in that respect. (There's other issues that need to be considered there, but I'll save them for the appropriate thread.)

Another issue that had speed players up in arms is the poor performance of the built-in clickies as opposed to the add-on clickies, but again, although that hurts speed players, it is not directly related to the speed setting itself, so again discussing that in this thread would be barking up the wrong tree.

Overall, though, unexpected lag is nowadays the biggest issue hampering speed players. Perhaps some players quit "back in the day" because of 1 and 2, but #3 is what is making people avoid freestyle in 2015. And that's a tech wizard issue that has nothing to do with game rules at all.

I played some speed after a 5 year gap when I played lots and lots of 7 man esc speed and found the 1 minute time limit completely unworkable (in a 1 v 1 Classic esc), and the 3 minute impossible (for me) in 7 man esc on classic. I assume this is somewhat down to my lack of basic manipulatory skills and an aged laptop but nonetheless I don't think I would be bothering to join a speed game with this kind of compressed time limit again.

That and/or I need to brush op (read : become competent) at clicking stuff.
