With another fraught week consigned to the history of the Universe, the story just seems to run and run....so here is....

A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Forum
Act 3 scene 1

So the weekend of revolution and flames finally came to an end. A few of us who had stuck it out in the Forum went home worse for wear after many jugs of fine red wine.

Wicked was still moving from group to group. Sometimes it seemed as if she was fanning the flames of revolution, sometimes it seemed she was trying to stop it all.

We returned to the Forum on the Monday morning, and what a mess it was. The Centurions were out and about keeping the plebeians in line, orders were barked from Officers to other ranks, the fires were slowly burning down. Was this the end of it we wondered as we ordered some fresh bread and a few jugs of Wine, settling into our favourite corner giving us a good view of everything going on.

It seemed as if the hard core of Wicked's supporters were not going to let this go. It also seemed, conversely, as if her die hard foes were not going to either. We sat and watched as Solunotus Manus took up position in one part, hurriedly erecting a platform from which to speak. I looked at my drinking partners with raised eyebrows, it seemed I was wrong, the flames of revolution still burned bright in his eyes…or perhaps it was something else.

With a flourish he started speaking…while a small band of loyal Wicked supporters gathered around him….. Klobberus Nihilus Minimus, well known snake oil salesman, took up position exactly opposite to Solunotus Manus, trying to drown him out with his hate for Wicked…..his voice was also silenced when it became obvious his state of mind was spinning out of control with the words…."If anyone thinks that I give a flying F at a rolling donut at this point what ANYONE says about me, you are sorely mistaken. I am on top of the world!...” and with this last shout he started laughing manically.

We wondered what this donut was that he speaketh of.

Sugsus Awfulus carried on arguing with others, trying to make them understand he was not against the Centurions or the Praetorian Guard….I wondered if anyone was actually listening.

Even the Hastati Brigade Commander, named Fablus Integrus Minimus, marching in with a phalanx of his personal soldiers, tried to bring order to the continual chaos of so many different groups (although it has to be said, he was not a supporter of Wicked) a supporter of his, Hwr Hettius (known for his lazing around at feasts) agreed, even the great orator Cicero tried to get the masses to concentrate on other issues, all to no avail.

We all chortled when a chef from the Northern legions, Decus Lombus Idiotus, set himself up in the middle of the Forum, then in a loud voice proclaimed he was going to start a new clan with Wicked as its chief…we chortled more when he proclaimed this was to heal the divisions in Rome. Much discussion followed with even Wicked herself, telling them, she could not control the Sun or the Moon…this caused many to wander off disappointed.

In another part of the Forum a major going by the name of Maximus not Greatus exhorted all to show they loved Wicked. Owenus Shooterus from my own clan house, stirred at this, I poured him another wine, but he was not be diverted. Standing he spoke loudly,

“Wicked is not rational fellow Romans, she claims to be recovered from her lime overdose, yet how does she prove this? By causing dissent, the hypocrisy is just too much by Jupiter! She gives out secure information; she even offers personal information of the Great Twilldo!! I ask you fellow Romans, is this kind of behaviour not further proof of what many have been saying for some time about her?”

I leant forward as he sat down, poured him another wine…always works for me back at the Clan Basilica

Others joined the discussion, with some feeling they had been left out by not hearing her words.

Others started offering suggestions as to who should replace Wicked in the Senate. John Rocketus Publius, quietly fancying the idea for himself, had a list placed on the south Wall. Others came and threw their votes into the baskets matching the names. Indeed there were some worthy names dear Reader. John himself, Alcholous Blitzus, a famous and worthy senior hoccifer, and 2 respected ladies of Rome. Gauisus videovidi Visum, a Lady of complicated name and Rank, and Robinus Nettus, a lady known for her collection of pictures...some of us wondered what that collection held in her private quarters. Many votes were cast. There was even suggestion I should take a chance at joining the Senate…I thought about my vineyards to the north, the nubile young slave girls from Germania, and the freedom I enjoyed, so eschewed the whole idea. Apart from which, the smell of the whole place was requiring more vats of wine to block out. Kissus Gypsus pointed out that a female should replace a female, to which Rocketus responded by asking which of the other 3 should then be chosen….at my table we saw this coming and smiled wanly.

Even Brettus Librettus, another clan member, joined the discussions going on, hoisting a hide painted with limes above his head, causing much muttering among the self important wandering the forum….we chortled mightily at the table, but that might have been the wine getting a grip. He wandered too and fro, stirring up trouble, causing reaction wherever he went.

Others took up the chant that Wicked should be back in the Senate, with rumblings of revolt still going on from place to place. Some one shouted that great minds think alike to which I responded, quietly, that fools seldom differ.

But what the crowds were really waiting for as the days passed was word from the ominously quiet Senate itself….meanwhile the jokers were already producing amusing asides at the expense of the main players. I kept my own council, thinking about the time this would all end.

Once again Sugsus Awfulus set up a speakers point, telling whoever would listen that he thought the attempted slaying of Wicked was unjust, in a suitably pompous way. This caused some discussion before, like all the others it finally ran out of energy.

Solunotus Manus continued insulting all and everyone who was set against Wicked, with Klobberus Nihilus Minimus shouting louder, until they both started foaming at the mouth and laughing in a manner more accustomed to being seen in the twilight homes for the unstable we have dotted around the City. Finally the Centurions arrived and they were both carted off screaming hectically at anyone who dared to come near.

to be continued....

Weekly update General

Phew what a week this has been

First Wicked went, and then she went from ‘the other place’. The revolution came to what most revolutions come to….nothing. But enough of this fish and chip shop news, surely there was more to interest the average forum reader than all the to-ings and fro-ings.

Well, yes there was, so after a few weeks dear Reader, here is the latest in what’s the Angelina Jolie in the firmament and what’s the Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Our old fav. of this thread ol’ Brucie, the war man, posted a thread about Public games not being feasible. Why? I hear you ask; well it seems Brucie feels that once you hit a certain point on the scoreboard, it is impossible to strip enough points from unsuspecting prey to ensure the progress keeps going. This was a mighty thought, seeing as yours truly was heading for the Brig camp (but more of that sorry tale later). Ol’ Brucie was so confident; he even asked to be flamed! And argue they did. You can imagine the chortle yours truly has when Brucie came out with the comment:

Maybe I just need to shut up and take it like a man.

Nuff said.

Brucie also had a thread about not moving armies….well if you will use CM Bruce!

An old thread about making mistakes made a comeback, with Crystallina telling us she was on ignore for making such a thing. ‘She whose name must not be mentioned’ posted thinking it was something else…yes well, less said eh dear reader….anyway, old Solo Man (spending time in exile) posted a completely off topic response, but that true Brig Mobabogj,….Mojoabjob…..Mobajob…Bobajob….MOBAJOBG (thank goodness for copying and pasting) pointed out that he had made plenty of mistakes and would make more in the future, at which point I headed for the Decanter of the Vintage stuff….what was this?…surely not! The world forever changed as I knew it.

A sweet little thread appeared, called ‘doodle earth’. Apparently, some wag had registered with the name of the thread, and set themselves up for a few games of the same name. A few posts followed with the whole idea killed by what a post that just has to gain the 'Congrats Post" of the week by Incandenza, who wrote:

Clearly not the swiftest ship in Her Majesty's fleet.

That had yours truly swigging hard I can tell you!

It seems a regular partner was a bit previous when posting a thread congratulating yours truly for getting a Brig. rank. Well dear reader, I must admit, I did. But truly this was for a matter of minutes only. I am hovering like a veritable kingfisher waiting to dive for a tasty morsel to push me over the mark, but not quite yet.

A superstitions thread was posted this week. And some crazy ideas were posted that’s for sure! Wise man Waccy was strolling about, and edited a few of the posts, however, it seems we do the following things amongst others….:
“smear strawberry jam on nadgers, sit on a red ants nest, open laptop, log on to CC”
“grit teeth when the dice are rolling on the screen”
“say BOOM! when attacking to win the roll”
“scream "No, no, NOOOOOO!!!!" at the screen alot.” (Maybe that comes after the BOOM!)
“When attacking Brazil on Classic, whistle or hum the song "Brazil"...”
And finally…”stare at the screen till eyes bleed then press on.”

Ratings still made the news this week along with you know who….It seems there are still those who feel it required to use these ratings as a way to exorcise their bad moods when beaten up on the board by a better player, better dice, better deployments…in fact better anything!

Now it has come to my attention, Dear reader, that there are those out there in the physical world (as against the real world of cc) who think playing an online war game is nerdy, immature etc. (perish the thought!)....Some close runners for the quote of the week within this thread include that General of Generals, Scotty, with the post:

I'm afraid to come out of the risk closet in fear of being called a geek.

Well, I hear there are self help groups abounding in ever City for conkies, Scott old chap! So fear ye not!

And that, dear reader, just about sums up the posts for the week not relevant to She who must not be named.

Even so, the Congrats of the week does have to go to both those giants of the cc world, Klobber and Soloman. Now these two mighty personalities have been around a bit, and both have reputations to die for. However, both managed to incur the wrath of the powers that be and have been exiled for a short time. Congrats guys, you managed to prove the old adage that there are sometimes that you can lead a horse to water……

As this planet of ours hurtles through space at a zillion something miles an hour, down here in cc land another week passes. So who are the Iagos and who are the Othellos? What’s happening in GD, and who is doing what to whom?

That thread about superstitions was brought to a juddering halt by JACKAZZTJM
With the words
i allways shit on the mouse before i start a new game it doesnt help i just like the smell of my fingers after hours of rapid clicking

Yeeeech Jacky boy, you can be just so disgusting…but a bit funny.

A freemium hoccifer started a thread “Sorry for misunderstanding” Now it has to be said that by the time yours truly got to read this particular nugget, some editing had taken place, so I misunderstood! Oh yes indeed I did. Anyway, if you want my opinion dear reader, which is highly unlikely but you’re going to get it anyway, this was a thread having a little pop at some senior ranks, now when I say senior ranks, I don’t mean the likes of myself, a Major who masquerades as a Colonel with ideas of being a Brig, but real seniors, you know who you are….so anyway, I carried on reading, lo and behold, it seems King Dain II already has an extended foe list! Now as you know dear reader, I don’t do foe lists (ahem) and mine, if I was to have one would be short and sweet (ahem ahem) But then Grainy asks if there is a trial available before paying for premium….err…so let’s get this right, someone who is enjoying freemium, or a trial of cc, asks if there is a trial premium to be had??? You’re confused; think of yours truly after a jug or two of the Vintage stuff! Then he points out that his problem is he can only play 3 odd games at a time!!! I pulled a few more of my fast diminishing hairs out of my head and sank another tankard….

Our turtle went on travels this week it seems. To that lovely country Croatia. I liked the post by mandalorian2298, who informed us all

THAT explains that weird guy on the market, who swung a bag of potatoes at me and screamed: "It's my site and I'll hire and fire whomever I want!"

Great stuff Mando, however, I think we will drop that subject now, don’t you dear reader….

Those 2 foes owenshooter and Paradice got going again this week on Paradice’s thread….about foes! This thread originally started some weeks back, but it never held front page news due to something or other, I forget now. Anyway…. I fancy myself as a reasonably intelligent lifeform, somewhere between a mayfly and God, not sure where tho’, but I got confused. It seems there is a difference between having someone on your foe list because they put you on theirs…and having someone on your foe list…..err…because they put you on theirs…..confused yet dear reader? you will be. Like that cool Cat MeDeFe I thought this was satire, but no! It seems there is a difference. It then transpires it seems illegal to do this….now by this time, I am starting to screw my eyes up in confusion, but it gets worse. Some 8 pages later it finally draws to a conclusion with this statement:

It's different for foeing someone for just being on their foe list than foeing someone who foed you for dumb reasons.

Err…there is a difference? It must be me…..

This is then followed by what has to receive the congrats of the week for a post by Paradice

I'm not wrong. That would be lying.

God I just love that…I must use it next time in a meeting…just watching the stunned faces around me will be enough!

That old hairy chestnut (do chestnuts have hairs? Do I care?) about Dice went through the usual paces this week. But at least one thing was sorted out for yours truly….I have wondered why after many thousands of dice thrown, my stats show a lower than average rate against me by around 2-3% across the board. It seems bbqpenguin is fully to blame for this as he has been receiving better than average dice. Glad I have that sorted out! Meanwhile, I should mention that sweetness of the forum Robinette, who once again posted a particularly nice picture (apart from her avatar of course) of…dice!

I spotted a thread about 1v1 players, to see an old team mate Army of Achilles (him of the fierce avatar) asking if there were any senior ranks who were interested in taking him on…not a chance old chap, I like the relative safety of team games thank you very much!

An old favourite of this thread Lumpy himself (congrats on joining the ruling classes Lumpy…perhaps you should be ashamed eh!) got a thread going about bringing back feedback. Now I liked feedback, but that’s another story. But one of the responses really got me guffawing, written by InkL0sed… it said:

How about the time you left me a neg for "cheating" - because I was playing at the same time as you in a Freestyle game?
…chortle….silence from lumpy after that. Then I noticed that sweetie Clapper had changed her avatar again! This time to such an angelic looking creature, I got down on my knees and prayed, yes dear reader I truly did.

The thread of the week just has to be “More "proof" that the scoring system is rigged” by jpliberty. Now we can deduce the following from Libby’s rants.
1) Senior ranks, generally play far fewer unique opponents.
2) Senior ranks are generally inbreeds
3) Conquer Club has a rigged, twisted scoring system.
Then he goes on to say:
4) They don't actually risk much of anything when they play.
And finally…
5) I've not suggested ratings have anything whatsoever to do with score. I've said that both ratings and score are utterly meaningless.

Quite right too Libby!.....just one question….how is that conclusion relevant to the title????

Well that about wraps up the words that caught the eye of yours truly while I mooched about the forum this week. Time for me to retire to Fc Towers…but before I go, I must just mention, in the nicest possible way, about the hoccifer Georgerx7di…his avatar shows a great equation, but when it comes to multiplication unfortunately, things go wrong:

there are 23,000 members. Lets say 10,000 of them are premium. Premium cost $25/year. That means that lack is making about $25,000/year off CC
…Great stuff there George, you remind me of myself!
