Wall spam

Postby WILLIAMS5232 on Tue Feb 16, 2016 10:35 am

Is there a place I can go to "opt out" of wall spam? I have no desire to play event battle royals.

It's a rare case when I get a wall notification, so when I do i have to admit I get a bit excited to see who took time out of their day to go through the trouble of writing me a message. Ill let you imagine the amount of dissapointment I feel when I check it and see some battle Royale wall spam that was obviously some sort of mass campaign to get people to play battle royales. The more this occours, the more excitement it will drain when I notice a wall post. If it occours too often, I may tend to stop checking them. Alltogether, possibly missing a friendly greeting from a kind e-soul that in turn will result in less e-friends. This happens enough with the decline hitting a new gear after a stark upburst over the holidays.

Im not against it, its just ive gotten two useless wall posts this week, and im just wondering if I have to just keep dealing with it, or is there somewhere I can go to opt out?

BR are finished for a while, so you shouldn't get them anymore.

yeah.. that isn't SPAM...

Electronic spamming is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited messages (spam), especially advertising, as well as sending messages repeatedly on the same site. While the most widely recognized form of spam is email spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social spam, television advertising and file sharing spam.

an actual user invited you to a game on your wall, not an electronic messaging system... for someone with 125 tabs of wall posts, you sure don't seem to understand how it works...
good luck with your basic understanding of the internet and how it works, so sorry... they probably saw you were online, recognized your name and invited you... it had nothing to do with CC auto spamming your wall to have you grace the game with your presence... you sure do have an inflated sense of self, and that is coming from me, the black jesus... sigh...-Jésus noir

I dont know those people, nor have I ever communicated with them. To me its spam. I dont care what you call it, its obviuos you didnt get so confused to think I was talking about rock climbing or the chemical compound of Tylenol. So your response was pointless to me. But thanks anyway for clarifying something that I'd guess you felt needed clarifying.

Deleting it isnt a problem, actually I probably wont delete, and now that its there im not bothered by it. I just dont want to get a flood of notifications on a weekly basis that I have a new wall post that is spam. My point being that when I do get an actual wall post sent by an actual friend, as rare as it is, i wont disregard it as being some clown sending out mass wall posts to folks asking them to play a game.

I think don cleared it up tho saying the battle royals were over. I just wasnt sure if this was some new campaign or something.

nope.. sorry, gave you the definition of what Spam was and it does not fall under the definition... i even explained how it probably happened, but your retention/comprehension skills, to the best of my memory, are lacking. TEASING... again, they probably saw you online and hit you up on your wall to join a fake battle royale (anything under 100 players is a fake royale w/out cheese to me)... annoying? yes. desperate? yes. spam? not even remotely...

There is an easy way to opt out. You message the guy you are not interested and if he cant send you that message the next time. Since I was one of the guys who tried to get these games underway, there have been a couple of guys who sended me such message. I stopped sending those the messages, also Confederate had on his wall that you had to PM him. So I PM'd him as he asked.

So maybe instead of starting a forum post on spam whatever, just message them back!? Say you are not interested? Probably takes up less time also!

Twiggy22 spammed my wall and several games of mine, why is that called "spamming" if it isn't computer generated? also, i've seen you on more than one occasion tell the chat mods to quit spamming global when there are advertising an event in the chat rooms. arguing for the sake of arguing is spam, owen. please quit spamming the forums... ;)

Would there have been a next time? If so thats when I would have asked you to stop. You miss my point here as well, your single post didnt bother me, dont be so touchy when it comes to the internet.. There are much more pointless threads around for me to worry about starting a pointless thread.

Foe would be the way to opt out of a specific person. They could no longer wall you but could pm. (To go back to the original question)

I rarely find a reason to foe someone, this not being one.

Again, as ive stated, my only desire to opt out was in the event that this was a site wide campaign in the attempt to fill cc events. While no one has answered that question directly, donaldon did mention in a way that would make me think it was not organized.

Also if you would ivestigate further into my posts, you would read that its not the message itself, but rather the notification that there is one. My complaint was only relevant in the instance that someone had organized a group of battle royal enthusiasts to run around spreading the cheer.

Im sorry to have hurt as many feelings as I did, but i still don't want to play any battle royals. I wish you all the best of luck winning them tho. Wall spam is tolerable, just not in massive amounts. Please accept my humble apologies in this matter. Next time I get a wall spam, ill just assume ot was out of love.

Well, to finally give you an answer to your question then, no it was not organized.
I believed Koganosi and I were the only "wall spammer". And it was only because we were quite desperate to see the Battle Royale fill.
And I doubt I'll remember not to wall you next time there is Battle Royale speed to play so sorry in advance

I liked the wall spam got me involved in some mini royales. I remember the days when I couldn't get in a royale for love nor money they were much rarer and filled up almost immediately. Much larger than this. People would come on the forums begging admins to set up a new royale. Oh the good old days (almost probably with exageration and nostalgia thrown in.)

50 player fake royales are not like the good ol' days and the 100 player royales, that were special... sorry, they should call them royales without cheese...-Jésus noir

p.s.-and one invite from a player for a game is not spam... it's an invite to a game... now, when i receive mails in my box to 100's of members for a tourney or games, i consider that spam.

Indeed that is why I called these ones mini royales and started whimsically reminiscing about when I had to fight to get in rather than be begged to play. They used to be a real event.

There was another spammer as well, and what really urged me to start this topic was as I was viewing a friends wall to make a wall post, I noticed another spammer had spammed his/her wall. Which led me to believe this was fixing to be a month, or at least week/s long ordeal. This is why I didnt simply ask one spammer to not spam me anymore as konanski suggested.
Also, you can read my first post again and take relief in noting that I also stated I wasnt totally against spam, I just didnt want to keep recieving them. I know spam is an effectove advertising tool as annoying as it is. And I know the people who like to play the battle royals really need those speed royals to start too.

Apology accepted in advance when you "forget" to not spam my wall in the future.

I haven't participated much in posting on walls this event, but most of the time fanatic BR players like Koga just go to the forum and wall every 'active online user'.

Just for the record the definition of spam that owen posted would identify the wall invite as spam. It is an unsolicited message delivered via an electronic message system. The definition doesn't say that it has to be computer generated. It says a message sent using electronic message system such as email, but would include forums, walls, sms etc.

It is often automatically generated, processed or sent, but doesn't have to be to fit the definition of spam.

BTW, I like getting these invites, so no problem from me, but it is technically spam.

Agreed, and nicely said. It is spam, but it's not much of an issue here.
