I think that most people who have run tournaments would be happy to help mentor, (definitely not run), you through a tournament. Then you would have the kind of tournament you would like to see. I know that I was grateful for the mentoring I received in learning to run them and would be happy to pass that on.
There is even a Tournament Organizers forum, which you would be invited to join after completing three tournaments as a Tournament Organizer. (Why three, because a number had to be picked and it is nice to have a forum that stays on topic about what it is. Not that it is terribly active but if one posts a question, answers are almost immediate.)
If you are wondering who these people might be, simply click the big Tournaments tab at the top of the page and then click on the Hall of Fame. Then simply pm a few people and you will get some guidance on how to set up and run "Your Tournament". You can also get information in the forums, Tournament, General Info
