Auto-Tournaments: Wasting Away

Postby iAmCaffeine on Mon Oct 26, 2015 11:31 am

I know this issue has been raised several times but it's now beyond a fucking joke.

Take the Assassin Masters tournament for example. I've just been issued with my Round 11 games which are all supposed to be four players, yet in roughly three days they will all be three player games, if not two. One of the players left CC ages ago. The other player is extremely intermittent and as a result some of my Round 10 games actually became 1v1s, after several rounds.

This kind of thing is just complete wank. Excuse my lack of eloquence but how often are new releases and updates going to taunt the active players of CC? This happens in Championships too; of which, the Conquest Championship is now being run manually due to the auto-tournament system being unfit for the job.

I know, let's wind the paying customers up with bullshit things that sound great on paper and lure them in with promises, when really we've just dug out one of El Jefe's polished turds and put a gloss on it! Perhaps that's a bit harsh and not strictly true, but it's certainly the impression we're given. This is just one of several major issues constantly causing problems on CC and whilst it's infuriating, annoying and disappointing, it's also upsetting. Something needs to change.

How many times has bigWham announced a new feature, put it forward for release, noticed there are loads of bugs, ignored the bugs, left us to deal with utter shit and then proceeded to make a fabulous new update instead?

I'm inclined to go and play chess, at least that shit won't result in tournaments full of players who've already left the site!

And I would've posted this in the Tournament Q&A area but that would be even more pointless than auto-tournaments, which is an achievement deserving of a new medal in itself.

+1.
I made a similar complaints few months ago. I couldn't agree more.
Someone need to be listening the players, we noticed an issue, we reported this issue, and it really look like nothing is happening or going to happen.

100% agree

I tried suggesting some new tourneys, there could be so many cool ones.

They start some tourneys, and rounds every once in awhile, then ignore them forever.

Here is a hell of an idea. Start a new auto tournament every other day, or 5 on Monday, or some set routine, and stick with it. You wonder why they dont get filled is because they get ignored for so long.

I look at a lot of tournaments and there are rounds of games that I have no interest in participating in, so I don't join. Rd 1 will be some cool maps with normal settings and it sparks my interest. then I look to rd 2 and it's some 12 person assassin game . Then rd 3 ends up being all 1v1 games. And then I lose interest and move on. I know a lot of people like those types of games, no problem, I just wish there were a few more "simple concept" ones. ie) 5 rds of flat rate, these 5 maps, random draw each round. Just something simpler without these weird swings in games each round.

I like having variety within one tournament but also, as you say, games which are five rounds of flat rate (unless it's 1v1) and suchlike. The tourneys that do get repetitively boring are seven rounds of Gallipoli or Trench Warfare, which isn't unusual at times. I do think the Great War events get mixed up a fair amount though, considering it's a four year event.

The standard auto-tournaments used to have more variety; some for flat rate, some no spoils, some particular maps and so forth. The assassin masters tourneys are huge. It'd be nice to see more of them like terminator, nuclear, the list goes on. They've taken a back seat lately though and that's fair enough.

I do think we can expect more variety as time goes on. There are times in the Great War when Dukasaur holds a tournament design competition based on certain themes, so make sure to get involved with those. Plus, for those not related to the Great War, trying speaking to mcshanester29 about potential ideas, although I know bigWham is the main man that runs them.

I don't know why there isn't just classic tournaments. 4-6 player rounds classic settings on the classic map. I wouldn't touch 90% of the maps if I was paid to play them because quite frankly I cannot be arsed to learn them, but I do enjoy actual Risk. The problem this site has now is that NOTHING is simplified. It's all about crazy features & clogging up the screen with crap.

i agree... this is the overall issue with the site... i don't even look at auto tournaments or village/tribe/whatever the fudge wars... hell, i can't even get my clan interested in a clan war... why? it is all HARD MAP/TRENCH/FOG vs. HARD MAP/TRENCH/FOG... oh, and lets not forget, you have to let the other team take snapshots of the board before and after each turn or you are a cheater (which isn't in the rules)... people sucked the fun out of this site, and it just keeps getting worse.. i literally play random maps to stay interested in this place... sigh...-Jésus noir
