Interview with Lufsen75
This week we had the chance to talk with organizer and player, Lufsen75. All questions are reader submitted, so if you have something you want to ask an upcoming organizer; PM me. Next week’s interview will be with Marfski. If you have not submitted your questions, you have until Tuesday to either PM me, or post in this thread.
Now, on with the interview.
Q: Hello, Lufsen75.
A: Hello Gozar and all readers.
Q:How did you find this website?
A: I found it by a friend at work who showed me.
Q: Why did you join CC?
A: I like RISK but don’t play it at home due to none else are interested. I play here for fun and for play it.
Q:Why did you start to play tournaments?
A: I started play tournaments cause I had to many who deadbeated in the normal games. Now I only play tournaments.
Q:What made you want to start running tournaments?
A: It was to have our national championship to start who made me an organizer. I like it also.
Q: How long have you been organizing tournaments?
A: It must be from this year started or so. Don’t remember when we started the national championship.
Q:What tournament did you first run?
A: Svenska Mästerskapen (Swedish Championship) was the first one and are still going on. This autumn we start the season 4.
Q: Where did you come up with your tournament ideas?
A: Mostly from the sports. Tennis so far in all except Swedish Championship.
Q: Who do you look to for inspiration when organizing your tournaments?
A: In my latest "Lufsens Mixup Tournament" I found it from my first international tournament and I mixed it with one of Nates. Otherwise I just look around what have not went well from the organizer not take it to the end.
Q: Describe the experience of your first tournament ran, and first played in.
A: The experience from first played was that it wasn’t like a common game. Here it also mattered to come 2nd which I wasn’t used to. First run (and still running) was all times I make wrong in all kind of ways. It is easier when I do it right from start.
Q: How many tournaments have you run already, and do you have a goal in mind for how many you want to run in total before you "retire"?
A: When I don’t find it fun anymore I will retire. Not before.
Q:What tournaments have you organized?
A: I have not organized so many. Swedish Championship, Davis Cup, Grand Slam, Grand Slam Double and Lufsen Mixup. I also run Bring It On!!! with thekidstrumpet who I couldn’t be without in that one.
Q: What is your favorite tournament you’ve played in?
A: I must say one friendly run. World 2.1 FoW terminator. Don’t know the name. And Bring it on!!! when Coleman started it. When he couldn’t run it anymore I and TKT took it over. We felt the tourney was worth continuing.
Q: Is there a specific type of format that you tend to gravitate towards? Why? Is there a format that is your favourite?
A: It will be 1v1 or 2v2 that are the ones that have fallen out well. Why? just because it is the most popular it seems. My favourite to play are also
Q: Do you find it easier to choose tournament settings yourself, or to let the players customize them?
A: It is easier to decide yourself but I can make it when the players choose to (Bring it on!!! and Swedish championship).
Q: Overall, are you playing a lot in tournaments? If not, then why and where do you find your games to play?
A:I am only playing tournaments so that one was easy
Q: How excited where you with your first CC win?
A: I don’t remember. But I am exited when I reach my all time high score so...
Q:Have you ever won a tournament?
A: Yes and No. I was in the axis team that won Axis and allies, but I don’t know. All axis teams won our first game so I don’t count it. We were 20 who won.
Q: What is your most disappointing tournament loss to date?
A: It must be in Enemys close, friends closer. Where I lost a game in the final due to my partner deadbeated. But I am not sure I would have won anyway but it make it not possible.
Q: In your mind, what makes a successful tournament?
A: The ones that go to finishline. Then the organizer have succeeded. And I know it is hard.
Q: What do you consider to be the most successful tournaments you've seen run?
A: Hard to say. I leave it open.
Q: What makes a successful organizer?
A: One who don’t take to much on his head and finish all his tournaments. That means when it is started it must go to finish.
Q: How do you attract players to your tournament, and what aspect (besides a reward of a premium prize or something like that) of a tournament do you think appeals to a lot of players and why?
A: I think that the glory makes many to join and just to play and have fun. I try to have an interesting subject to my tournaments and hope it will be enough.
Q: Is there anything in particular that you dislike about tournament organizing?
A: All hard work. But it have being better now with the PMs so.
Q: For you, what is the best part of being a tournament organizer?
A: That I get some things my way and also see how people are happy to play.
Q: What mistakes do you see tournament organizers make the most?
A: The new ones (like myself) thinks that it is easier than it is. That is the most mistake I see.
Q: With experience comes the wisdom of knowing what mistakes you've made in the past so you can avoid them in the future. What mistakes have you made in your tournaments that you are sure to avoid in future tournaments?
A: The mistakes to send PMs to wrong person. But I make them again and again so I don’t know if I ever learn. I make them more less now though.
Q:What is your opinion on organizer neutrality? Should organizers be allowed to place themselves against their own clanmates in tournaments? Should organizers be allowed to join their own tournaments at all?
A: I would say that every tournament should be open to everyone. Even if you organize it or will go against a clanmember.
Q: Do you use a "schedule" for updating your tournaments, or do you just wait until they need an update?
A: I have a schedule but not on days but on happenings in tournament.
Q:Should “question marks” be allowed to join tournaments?
A: I don’t we why they shouldn’t.
Q:Do you feel it is better to give a bye to players whose opponents deadbeats the tournament, or to use a reserve?
A: I have used both but in my tournaments it is easier to give a buy.
Q: If you could change one thing about Conquer Club in general, what would it be?
A: that must be... Dont know now. I will come up with it when it go to press I guess.
Q: If there was something that the Conquer Club administrators could implement into the game to make tournaments easier to manage, what would it be? Similarly, is there anything you would like to see taken away from Conquer Club to make running tournaments easier?
A: One thing that might be taken away (if possible) is the nonrunning tournaments from the list when search in touneys. Otherwise it was the PMthing that are solved.
Q: Is there anything that you would recommend to encourage new tournament organizers?
A: Don’t make it to big the first time you run a tournament.
Q: List your top 5 biggest tournament headache's to this point
A: Look out the wrong things that are made. sending PM to wrong players. Making wrong settings. etc.
Q:How much time does CC take from your day?
A: 0,5 to 2 hours. Which are to much.
Q:Are you a member of any clans or usergroups?
A: No I am not a member of any clan yet but I have asked to be a member in Generation 1
Q: Why did you pick the name Lufsen75?
A: Good question. It is in english "the Tramp". the dog you know. I pick it when I was single and have had it sense even though I am married. 75 is from my birth year.
Q:Where are you from?
A: I am from a nice place Värmdö in the Archepelago of Stockholm. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden for those that don’t know.
Q:Favourite play colour?
A: In original Risk it is black. Here I have none but it is easier to have the same colour in most games.
Q:Favourite and least favourite map?
A: Favourite map is Brittish Isle for somehow and the one I really hate is Waterloo.
Q: Any tournaments planned for the future? What are they?
A: The only one is season 4 of Swedish championship. I have just started 2 tournaments so I will lay low for a wile.
