Share Your Opinion! -- Flame Wars, Gone For Good?

Postby InsomniaRed on Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:24 am

This is for the Community Opinion piece for Conquer Club News.

So we've all noticed the lack of Flames Wars, or at least we've noticed the many, many topics/posts about the missing forum. The question is, for better or for worse?

Please post and explain your opinion!!

-Insom

PS - Please don't spam this thread with anything that is not relevant to the topic, thank you ;)

And please everyone, restrain yourself from flaming....

Please, bring Flame Wars back. I got this obviously young [moderator] "NIGHT STRIKE," breathing down my back. Apparently, someone can make rude and untrue statements about Americans in general, but if you call a French-Canadian in retaliation a "FRENCHIE," the kid goes ballastic!

"Night Strike" needs to ignore his political correctness classes he learns in his freshman year in High School. OR, is he more sensitive to some of his younger peers then say a old piece of crap like myself?

Well anyhoo, Flame Wars, needs to be returned to it's rightful place or the natives might start turning on each other. We can't have the uneven handed measures of political correctness in the hands of "Night Strike." This can only lead to a GESTAPO type of control, which some offensive posting is allowed, if it fits the moderator's political thoughts.

I'm sure C.C, will do the right thing!

What made you think you had freedom of speech here?

Flame Wars is dead, just let it go. There are plenty of places online where you can insult other children while pretending to be adults. In fact, I believe that is the express purpose of 4chan. There's no need to keep an eyesore like that here on CC.

I'd imagine that the CC 'powers that be' are relying on the fact that a very small minority of users even notice, never mind care about, flamewars.

They are probably right on this.

In terms of customer service though it did come across as immature, weak and, to be perfectly honest about it, sneaky.

the arrogance involved with the newsletter staff in attempting to take over the GD is grating. it is wonderful the amount of control that mods have in other areas of CC and in other sub-forums. but to speak to the GD as if we are children is just not the correct way to go.

and what a dumb poll. how about an official announcement from twill-lite or another admin, before a mod starts a poll like this? it could come off as official... all in all, this is just a poorly thought out thread with horrendous execution... i like you red, and i'm sure you were asked to do this. i know you are smarter than this... back to my fridge ;) ...-0

Hyasri wrote:Unlike the beautiful colo(u)r scheme we launched on April 1st as an April Fools joke, the removal of Flame Wars was no joke. We have given this a lot of thought and consideration and agree that Flame Wars no longer fits into the future vision for the site. It was becoming more clear that the flames were spilling out of that forum and taking up more moderation time to sort out.

We were also concerned about the unfriendly atmosphere this was generating for new people. I realise this will be an unpopular move with some of you, but I can assure you a lot of thought has gone into this.

Peace & Love will also be removed very shortly, that was fun while it lasted :P

twill-lite announcing his presence with AUTHORITY!! i may need to change his nickname to Nuke Laloosh!!! (boy, do i date myself with cultural references...)...-0

With all honesty it's a fight i am not particularly interested in any longer but i have to say that it does hold a message as to the ephemeral nature of anything we write in these forums.
The site is saying that "Nothing will last, nothing is yours which is mine", so don't bother putting too much effort into your 'contribution', your intellectual musings are as leaves to the wind!

I used to re-visit the odd classic FlameWar thread; a bit like reminiscing at a grave I suppose.. (not of a relative or a lifelong friend.. more the ashes of the chap you used to get pissed with and end up vomiting in his downstairs toilet for a period at college) Now i find that some bugger dug the grave stones up and put a house on the bones...

And we see the ghosts of the dead haunting the house from the foundation up.
But come on you Prudish Anti-Flamers (and by christ i did use the word 'vomiting' above!), don't moan about it! What did you really expect!.. Surely everyone has seen Poltergeist!?

We need a forum for a place where you can bash someone but not flamewars. Only a certain groupl of people went into that forum so when you wanted to bash someone the outcome was that only you cared.

Maybe we could have a wall of shame or something where everyone gets to post one person a week or something. idk

we need a "flame wars" forum but it has to be new and improved

I would say that given the fact that the people who were likely to be opposed to the removal of flame wars probably would have been opposed whenever it was done. There were a certain number of people who liked the forum either as participants or observers. At the same token, there would likely have been a certain number of people who would not cared how it was removed as they did not care for it, for whatever reason.

Whether or not the april fools joke was designed to do this or not, i dont think it ends up making anyone look the better, especially as it probably could have been done at any particular time with similar results.

I think it was measured to take the initial sting out of it.. and i think that worked very successfully!
But that kind of sneakiness is annoying and manipulative.

I have not enjoyed flamewars for a long time with truth but the cockiness of those saying 'tough luck' to the flamers and the manner of its removal reminds me of any members lack of power to maintain the site as they like it!
-happy CLASSIC is gone too?
-Feedback replaced by a flipping star!
-Middle Earth is back so why not a world map huh?

FlameWars demise is great for the moral majority! well done our Christian brothers who say 'sugar' when they mean 'shit'! but walk in another's shoes for a while and you will see that imposition of anothers will, without consultation or course for remission, is a larger point of frustration!

We are caged most of our lives, we compromise and toe the line and this is a tiny little chip from our broader feelings of helplessness!

It's good being king!

Flame wars went....big deal.

Unfortunately the attitude of those who's income depends on the goodwill of paying members leaves something to be desired. The disbanding of that forum was not just confronted robustly and dealt with, it was done in a way that loses trust. However, I truly don't think lack, the new kid on the block, or any of the admin truly care about trust and here's why....

Many years ago I owned a fast food store just off Oxford Street in London. This store was based on one thing alone, speed of service. My staff served pretty mediocre product in a pretty mediocre way yet the store was hugely successful. Why was this? Simply because our market was transient in the main. We were not interested in repeat business as this was unlikely and even if we were to expend resources chasing it, there was plenty more who would arrive, pay and leave, the supply of these punters was almost endless. In summary we had the position on the street, a huge market to supply and we cherry picked with little effort.

This site will continue its policy of pretty piss poor service until one day in the future someone comes up with a better managed operation, then this site will wither and die (yes that fast food store if mine did shut down in the end, some 10 years after I sold it).

Well, I got the last warning of all warnings just a couple of minutes ago. Night Strike, is offended by what? Cause, I called him on his warnings and P.M.s to me.

Being politically correct in an arena that involves destroying your opponet is obscene. Night Strike has crossed the line and now has taken a warning of questionable intent to an extreme personal hatred for me.

So be it!

Bring back FLAME WARS and stop this childish moderation of innocent banter.

I forsee a lot of deletions, suspensions and outright banning for what? Political Correctness to the extreme!

This site, with it's new philosophy of banning all FREE SPEECH, will only hurt C.C.

You have free speech. Start your own site, join an adult site, get a megaphone, or buy an ad in a newspaper are just a few examples of your options.

Really now, you're silly [I hope I don't get a suspension for that], this topic is about restoring FLAME WARS. Stick to the subject!

Sorry, I'd like to be more direct with my answer to your absurd posting, but I'm on my last WARNING from Night Strike.

Careful everyone, just a little rant will get you a suspension.
