Howdy. This is the thread where I host a league for the crazies from (the currently named) Atmospheric Noise forum. This is going to be a Classic-based round robin with a playoff.

Original thread is here.

Structure:

There will be two phases. The first will consist of a 1v1 round robin, and a parallel series of 8 player free-for-alls. If I cut off entrance at 14, that's thirteen 1v1 games per participant (91 total), and four 8 player games per participant (seven total). I will randomize the roster and use wikipedia's rotational scheme to produce game progression for the 1v1s. I will rerandomize the roster, and the 8 player games will conist of the following players: 1-8, then 3-10, then 5-12, then 7-14, then 9-2, then 11-4, then 13-6. These games will set off every other round or so.

Scoring for phase 1: 5 points for 1v1 elimination, 3 points for 1v1 army count win, 1 point for 1v1 douchebag "I won because I'm red." 10 points for large format win, 5 for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth, 1 for fifth and sixth, 0 for lamos.

Phase 2 will be a 1v1, best of three playoff bracket for the top six seeded players. Top two seeds get a bye, and the leader plays the weakest seed remaining after the first round. These six players will also do a large format game, where victory will net you home map advantage for one of the finals games, if you make it that far. The losers will also play a losers game during this phase. Losers.

All these games will be classic, auto, seq, esc, chained, sunny, 30 round limit. If your teammate is ok with a 1v1 speed game, I'll allow it. Make sure both of you post you will be doing that before you do. These rules are not yet set in stone, but will go final when the first game starts, so please comment and suggest.

Simultaneous to all this nonsense will be bonus games. The winners of these games will get fun surprises. Any rule conflicts from these bonuses will be overridden in favor of the bonuses. I'm open to bonus suggestions.

If whitestazn88 loses, he has to wax the winner's bung.

Double posting was invented at McGill University shortly after the breast implant (which was invented at McGill University in 1931)

Also, what are the negative consequences for being a loser in this tournament? I still vote for something bung related.

I totally foresee this thread getting locked before the tourney even starts.

Update: I'll be posting matchups in the next 24 hours or so.

More clarity on this is forthcoming. I don't know why whitestazn is spamming.

in a 1v1 round robin with 14 players, there would be 91 games (14*13/2)

if you're doing a bracket (which is different from a round robin), it should be double elimination so that people don't get screwed by a bad round 1 matchup.

or maybe you could try a swiss tournament

the only downside with your 8 player format is that players 1 and 2 (for example) will always be in the same games

That would be AWESOME. Seriously...I am completely and utterly in favor of this. I cannot stress enough how enjoyable this sounds to me.

Yeah, 91 total games, which is 13 games per person, right?

I'm not familiar with a swiss tournament.

I recognized that issue with the big games, but don't know a way around it. If you know a simple algorithm, or are willing to calculate it out yourself, to provide the same numbers but a better mix, I'm open to it. I do like the ratio of about four singles to one big per player though. Assuming my math is right.

Are you thinking total, or 91 games per person? Because I can't really commit to running something like the latter, but i'd be happy to participate lol.

I can't be bothered to read all the details of this tourney. I trust our wise and intelligent director.

1) Nationalize all white saint azn posts ITT.

2) I demand all the vouchers.

3) When do you think this tourney will start?

1. The government has just emminent domained all azn posts.

2. No.

3. As early as tomorrow, or as late as this weekend. ASAP, which probably means tomorrow.

oh ok, i thought you meant 13 games total, like a single elimination bracket with 14 players

swiss tournament is where you have a list of players and have person 1 play person 2, etc. give the winner of each match one point, then sort the list by points and have people play the ones next to them on the list, giving the winner one point. sort the list, repeat, etc. with no two players playing twice. eventually you have a ranking of players based on points.

there's a way to solve that problem with big games, but it's complicated and probably wouldn't make that big of a difference unless one player decided to ruin another player's 4 games for no reason
