Ripped, Shredded, Sliced [Recruiting][Educational]

This is an educational and social user group, headed by myself as a Personal Trainer and a Strength and Conditioning student. The aim of this group is to provide advice and a place for discussion of all matters relating to fitness, health, and physical activity. Whether you are an athlete, or just your "average Joe" (or Josephine) looking to improve their fitness and/or lifestyle, The Iron is a place to raise any questions you may have. This is not a place to discuss favourite sports teams or argue about whether or not you are better than your local rivals.

I've supplied this information for you to have a look at whether you want to join or not. Please be warned, the latter pictures are a little weird, and the last one is quite disturbing.


Defined - Muscle separations get deeper in the arms, chest, legs and back, and abs appear when flexed. Approximate body fat level is 10%.

Here's an example of someone in a defined state.

Ripped - Abdominals are clearly visible all the time, vascularity in arms is prominent, chest and back separation is obvious, and face is starting to appear more angular. This condition can be held indefinitely. Approximate body fat level is between 7% and 9%.

Here's an example of someone in a ripped state.

Shredded - Striations appear in large muscle groups when they are flexed. You look small in clothes, but look fantastic when you're not. Vascularity appears in lower abdomen and in the legs. This condition can be held for several days with careful dieting. Competitive bodybuilders often aim for this state for competition day. Approximate body fat level is between 5% and 7%.

Here's an example of someone in a shredded state.

Sliced - Muscles and tendons begin to appear in the face when chewing, striations appear everywhere and vascularity appears everywhere. Body fat levels are close to 3% and subcutaneous water levels are near 0. Condition can only be held for a few hours at a time. This is not a healthy condition to stay in due to lower water level.

Here's an example of someone in a sliced state.

I'll join,

I wanna join because I don't really have the muscles that I wished I had, and I want to maybe lose a few pounds on my stomach. Since I am going to college in 2 weeks, I figured having this to look at or ask questions about being healthy and maybe getting a little more muscle would be a good idea.

Ok count me in Joshy :) ! I can give advice on running! I'll be running my third halfmarathon soon and then workout for my first marathon begins \:D/ !!! I've been a bit of a gymrat previously as well so I can give some advice there as well! Also my brother is a personal trainer so I can pass forth some advice he's given me :) !

Count me in please, I used to be a huge fitness fanatic. Back in my hay day I had 18 inch arms. It would be interesting to share tips etc, and find out how others get there.

I'm in, I train for swimming 4 hours a day. Sadly I'm not ripped, shredded, or even defined, but I ain't chubby, darn parents both had to show no muscle. My dad was a football player, basketball, baseball in highschool and played baseball in college. I hope to get a scholarship for swimming. Anywho those are my "credentials" would love to join!
