(I'm gong to try and summarize what was in the first few pages, and GUESS at the format you might pick)
1> People sign up in the tourney thread. 2000+ points or clan membership, ANY clan, to join in. Personally, I think using 2000, while legal, is a bit high... depends on the goal of this. to have a clan war tournament, or to show non-clan members what they're missing, and get new folks involved in clans?
2> as you sign up, list a map, and maybe cards/fort settings. maybe all settings.
3> Once a list of um... 80, 160, or 320 is signed up, compiled list is provided to team captains... probably the highest ranked 8, 16, or 32 clan members signed up.
4> Team captains draft off the list (by ranking the other players in order of preference... then random.org sorts the team captains, and snakedraft off their list, in order of availability ...this would be the fastest to get running, although setting up the list in the first place, and getting the captains to rank them, will be the hard part)
5> Teams of 10. Matches of 21, each 10 home settings, and 1 random map. winning team advances in bracket.
6> Maybe the winning team could... not swap, but pick up a player from the defeated team? So second round would be 23 games, etc. Wouldn't want to swap, or some players would end up dropped off the winning team through no fault of their own.
Interesting idea. If it's open enough to non-clan personnel, I like it. I'm not overly fond of the idea of anyone using tournament privileges for a cross-clan war, though. If it's used as a tool to get people interested in clans, I think it's a great idea... I suppose, as I said in #1, it depends on the goal of this event.
(freaky idea)How about a restriction of 2000+ points to non-clan members, and a CAP on the points of clan members? that'd be a twist, a good recruiting tool... of course, the cap would not apply to the team captains.
...sorry, I've been awake too long when I start coming up with ideas like these, and the tournament I just created (to be posted tomorrow)... I'm free-associating, pardon me if I've managed to insult anyone, I'm off to bed.
1) You dont want to get caught with someone who doesn't know team games or doesn't take turns on your team thus majors with 3 team medals are at least going to show up and have some strategy for team games.
2) I dont think this is necessary and it would cause a lot of clutter, just my opinion though.
3) I dont think it should be highest ranked but those who wish to do it as this might deter a high ranking player who doesn't want the responsibility from joining. There could be a rank requirement to be a leader so that the teams are somewhat even to start however that would
4) I have no idea how the draft would work so i cant comment
5) I agree with this as then you can set up groups for your team as you have the required 10 members. Also 21 games is not a huge burden on players especially if spread out over 2 sets.
6) I disagree with this idea
I think the goal should be to get players to play with people they haven't before which is very hard to do with the invite system. As i said before it would suck to get someone who isnt going to make good moves on your team.
The cap on points is quite dumb, there are plenty of great team game players who dont play for points and it would just put more importance on being able to know who those players are...also not all high ranking members of clans are good at team games they could get their points from somewhere else.
