48 hour tournament invites

Concise description:
  • When running a tournament, have an option of making the invite duration last 48 hours instead of 24

Specifics/Details:
  • Most tournaments allow for 48 hours to join, but the invites run out after 24 hours. Life gets hectic and a lot of time can pass before it is noticed that a player hasn't excepted his/her invite. So by the time it is re-issued, days might have passed. Would be nice to have a way of making this simpler

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • A lot of our life's get busy, either for a player playing in a tourney or host of a tourney. The common practice in tourneys is to allow 48 hours for a player to join. If the option is there for a 48 hour invite, how could it not help everyone, the host, player waiting for that individual to join, the the player who needs to join.

Delete tournament and just make it all private games.

It looks like an easy thing to do, and make total sense for tournaments. +1

Devils advocate: If were setting a random timeframe for invites, why is 48hr more appropriate than 24hrs, 72hrs or 7 days?

Also, note that the suggestion is not concerning all invitations, but only the ones for tournament.
For other invitations 24h would remain.

And a longer time is usually not appropriate, because it would slow down the tournaments process.

Why though? The way I see it, you may as well just change the time limit in the code rather than adding complexities.

+1 24hour invites are indeed a hassle.

In tournaments you can be removed for not accepting an invite within 24hrs, or at the least it's a pain for organisers. If you miss an invite to a public game, big deal.

Why 48 hours and not 24 or 72...etc.........When I host a tourney, I know that it could take weeks to fill, especially the bigger ones. Some of the 1st players to sign up for it may have forgotten that they even signed up for it. They may not check their invites or even notice them. I understand there is a life outside of CC, and sometimes, 24 isn't enough time to give these players, that was interested enough in my tourney, to join.
On the other hand, once the invites are sent out, players are expecting the tourney to run as efficient as I can get it to run, so 72 hours is to long (for me that is)

thats the point. Private game invitations are not important enough to have a seperate rule, so just have rule and make it suit tournaments.

Ah, I see what you're saying now. I guess that would apply if there would be any extra effort involved for regular games, but there isn't, so I figure it doesn't make a difference.

Where an issue could arise is clan games, since they're treated the same way as tournament games. 48hr invites wouldn't be viable.

How so? I don't see how 48hr invites for clan games would be an issue.

I suppose things could be adjusted to accommodate, but if an invite is missed for a clan game after waiting 48hrs, then we're waiting up to another 48hrs for the game to fill. For things like the Clan League that causes problems. I expect people may also petition for longer to arrange games.

I would be in favor of this. Part of the reason that my tournaments run with 24 to accept is my time allotment. It takes me about 30sec per person for an initial invite. It takes about 5 - 10 minutes per person (by the time I double check and cross reference and make sure that its not just game finder screwing up) to issue the 2nd invite. So out of respect for my own life outside of CC, I go with a twenty four hour acceptance.

Now along with that, I post my exceptions policy:
As always, if you suspect there might be a problem, tell me, and in most cases things can be worked out. I am very willing to work around real life if you tell me. I have held games, sent second invites, etc., when I know. Just a short note that says RL has me tied up until Thursday is sufficient. PM, wall, text message, carrier pigeon, something. Just let me know.

I feel this is a reasonable compromise, respecting the fact that we all have lives outside of CC.
