Feature Requests


Concise description:

• Each player can vote on what they would like to see implemented
• Each feature request has a status given by Admin - Under Review/Planned/Started/Completed/Rejected

Specifics/Details:

• Each player gets 10 votes to assign to suggestions they would like to see implemented
• A max of 3 votes can be given by a player to the same suggestion
• Suggestions with the most votes are sorted to the top of the page
• Suggestions could also be sorted by Latest or by the Status given by Admin
• A player can reassign votes if their opinion changes
• Each suggestion will have the total number of votes received clearly shown

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

• CC Admin will know at a glance what has the most community support
• CC community will know at a glance what management think of the suggestions
• Older suggestions not implemented won't get lost in Submitted

I like that you can give more than vote to a suggestion to signal strong support. However, I think the rest of it kind of falls to the same criticism as Met's previous suggestion that he linked to. And I think this succinctly sums up my feelings on it:

I think the community already ranks the suggestions to a degree. If I read through a suggestion, I definitely have a feel for what the community (that participates in this forum anyway) thinks about it.

But read through that thread. It's short.

i did and my suggestion addresses many of the problems with mets one.

1st off, the ability to apply more than 1 vote to a requested feature allows you to voice strong support
2nd - the vocal community often gets into a discussion on pros/cons then gets sidetracked. this idea allows for them (and the non-vocal community) to choose what is important and have it easily identified as such. a 15 pages thread not so much + resetting of polls loses all previous support given.
3rd - the ability for Admin (not you or any other Suggs mod) to tag ideas as Under Review/Planned/Started/Completed/Rejected gives us (and you) vital feedback and encouragment
4th - an automatic sorting of ideas based on votes makes it easy to see what we have the greatest desire for, not whether something had a comment made 5 minutes ago or 15 pages of comments by the same 6 people
5th - lost support due to resetting of the poll is a thing of the past

Not sure I like the idea as some could gain more support through the friends/clan networks. This might lead to some suggestions gaining more support than it really has, leaving the admin/suggs mods baffling ideas over how a silly suggestion got lots of support. This is like the like button thread in that way.

But can the suggestion team post on the home page? If so, why do we not see you their when you are thinking of moving a suggestion to submitted or rejected? This might garner some more posts for suggestion. Just a thought.

like buttons are unlimited, this is not.

if a clan rallies support for a couple of suggestions then that's it. their votes are cast. garnering lots of votes wont mean automatic implementation, what it will do is push it into the field of view of the Webmaster for comment.

there are dozens of pages of suggestions. this suggestion will allow the more popular ones to rise to the top, while also allowing us to sort by 'New Additions' or 'Fast Movers'.

I like the idea. I like the previous one also. I don't care which one is implemented, but at least one of them should be, and soon.

It's important to have measurable feedback.

My opinion is that instead of each player being able to put all votes to one change, each player should have a number of votes but must cast them on their first, second, third, etc.. All on one idea seems to be too much weight.

I'm in favor of having a popular vote on ideas but with stipulations.
Like an earlier voter pointed out, it has the potential to be abused as it is. Some clans have the ability to more or less force their members to vote a certain way due to peer pressure. If everyone in a clan were able pressured to drop 10 votes on something it would make for a too heavily weighted system and not a real reflection of what the community wants.
I like the idea if the most you can drop on any single idea is one vote since this is the only way I can see to avoid abuse of a system like this. Also, I think that the changes should ultimately be up to administration. Sort of like how a jury can make a decision but a judge can overrule it if they find the outcome impractical/fishy.

We're in the middle of revamping the Suggestions process right now, and this is not part of the new system. Perhaps we will try it out later if we can't get that to work. The problem that you are addressing is that the site is not implementing suggestions based on what the users actually want. Instead of some complex voting system (and don't fool yourself, any way of doing this would be complex), another alternative is simply more attentive Suggestions Moderators and an open line of communication to the leadership. That alternative is basically the path we are trying out right now.

I'm not saying that your idea is bad, but it's simply not the direction that we are heading right now.
