Don, you're still making assumptions. I actually have no idea whether they won or lost. They were just annoyed by the fact that it happened. And then I had a thought.
As I said in my first post, one could make a very good argument that, if you miss a turn, you simply don't get your troops AT ALL. That the CC community has seen fit to give you a little something to make it not so bad is charitable enough, but, as there's a very simple way to avoid the "extra punishment" of getting this charity in a less tactically advantageous way, I see it as hardly draconian. Again, you should feel fortunate you're getting anything.
After all, missing turns is rude. You have an entire day to make your turn unless you're playing a speed game and then it's even more rude because of the implied obligation of sitting down and hammering a game out. Most honorable players have extremely high turn rates, as they should. I virtually never miss one and don't feel I'm owed anything for having done so.
