- Remove all medal limits through first 100 medals
Specifics/Details:
- Medals would be issued for all occurrences after 30 until 100
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
- User Retention - In most games people end up quitting or leaving when they hit a wall. The end of achievements in their favorite play area on the site might trigger this.
- User Experience - Being rewarded with achievements creates the wonderful user experience we know and love. Allowing this to continue seems an obvious plus for user happiness
- Give Credit Where it is Due - Running a tournament, winning a clan war, winning a TPA tournament, completing a monthly challenge all take work. These experiences create a beautiful history for users. They can go look through their tournament medals and remember each one and how much they worked for it etc. as long as we actually allow them to document those achievements
- Eliminate Phantom Medal Logging and Errors - Currently there are LOTS of medal errors. Players receive 31 medals because the mod issuing didn't check or even have a log of who has 30. Then these become case by case items to be removed and fixed. Users don't have anywhere convenient to log achievements past 30 to know when they hit the magic number 50. Which mod is even in charge of logging how many GA medals people have? The current system is a compromise of disorganization when it would be more efficient to use the sites medal database to log things rather than forcing outside logging and comparison for all medals won.
- The site should be focused on the majority of users rather than the minority - All arguments for capping medals focus on the idea of 1 John Doe being able to reach the top of the medal scoreboard and who should be worthy of that. This site was made for tens of thousands of users who actively pursue medals in their own ways, most of which never imagine cracking the leader board.
- Why 100? - simply because I think this suggestion is more likely to be implemented if we don't give credit to tournament winners and tournament organizers by making them the current medal leaders. This makes the number of special cases just that "special". Rather than hundreds of affected users you have maybe 10 well known users who break the limits. It's not fair but hey I'm compromising.
- The site is getting older - It's not 2006. Why was 30 medals for 30 tournament wins ok when there had only been 10% as many tournaments as there are now but now 50 medals for 50 wins is too much?
I know this has been debated a lot, but recent and continuous problems in the current medal system actually working as it is designed (medals awarded for 31st win, excess medals needing deletion, lack of tracking who is at 30, lack of tracking who is at 50) has brought to light that anyone who wants medal limits needs to volunteer to run the whole system and do it seamlessly. It's too much work for volunteers to track it in it's current form when the limits exist only for the enjoyment of a few rather than giving more medals to the enjoyment of many.
