[Site/UI] Auto-game buttons

Postby Artimis on Thu Nov 07, 2013 6:03 pm

I thought about appending this to the end of my other thread: [Site]Boost new player retention

However, the idea first raised by Foxglove in the above referenced post(3rd post down from the top) could be implemented independently and probably before the above suggestion.

Concise description:
  • Add a button that will quick start a bot game with basic settings that you would find in any standard game of Risk.
  • Add a button that will quick start a game with the users preferred settings that has a control panel window to save said preferred settings.

Specifics/Details:
The new buttons would be added in the top left corner between the "Logout <name here>" link and Game Menu table in the side bar on this page here: http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?mode=mygames1

The control panel for saving users preferred game settings would be added as a new tab to the Control Panel here: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/ucp.php -I would suggest placing the new tab directly after Overview and not on the end with Friends & Foes. ;) Also having a new tab added means that it can be found easily and can be modified with new features as as deemed necessary.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Players can just click the quick-start-bot-game button to get started rather than wade through an array of starting options, this would be a boon to new players who are just looking for a game that is similar to the table top board game.
  • I can't tell you how many time I've set up a game and I've missed a setting that I should have altered, Escalating instead of Flat Rate, Sequential instead of Freestyle, 2 player instead of 6 player. With preferred settings saved you can help players avoid hiccups of all varieties.

I don't really see much downside to this.
