ConquerSkins

Postby iamkoolerthanu on Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:27 am

Concise description:
  • Make there be a certain number of 'skins' that people can use. Sorta like this except fix all the bugs in it.. That skin looks awesome but apparently you cannot read some text, signatures get messed up, and you need stylish downloaded... Site integrated would work a million times better :)

Specifics/Details:
  • Let there be a number of skins available (original, dark, silver, green, red, flower, w-e/ Get creative if you want :D)

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • It seems like a few members have posted i the add-on thread mentioned above.. and it is an option, you can always stick with the original. Plus I would love it. :)

i play poker at pokerstars and regularly change my skin. they have 6 or 7 different themes.

i also change the skin for google on the laptop. right now it is ladybugs (my ex-wifes favourite/it doesn't hurt to be nice :D ).

i think it would be great to have something like that here, be it different colours/themes/etc.

This needs to be in addons, unless you mean it should be a fixed feature in your settings?

That's what I meant

I mean it has to be a feature you can edit in your profile, site integrated :)

I just did a quick check. the forum software does support this. However you have the choice between 2 thingies.. not looking all too promising, but i guess it could be done, eventually.
Myself not so interrested, i like white

Making them, which would be people contributing them.

Edit: For those who want to know how, http://userstyles.org/help/coding (assuming Stylish)

yes, something like that! :)

How will this be displayed? Another tab in the control panel?
Will there be a private forum part for desining this or will it go on the same forum as map making?

I did that in about 10 minutes.

Most likely, it would be done as an addon. However there are other ways to skin something. A setting in the control panel is possible but it would take much longer.

I'm working on a way to easily deploy and manage skins. Hopefully something will be seen soon ;).

Also, a private forum for designing these would most likely happen, along with room for those who wish to test them. It just depends on how things like this are implemented.

Agreed that official site integration in control panel would likely only come after it was an addon first. However, I'd love to see Conquer Skins addon.

PokerStars has different skins available based on themes such as the Wild West. Microsoft also provides them for Windows. i would like to see the site provide a few skins that i can change from Control Panel. initially they'd be a different set of colours like a 'dark skin' such as this

seasonal ones could then be added. ideally it would be possible for users to submit their own designs based on their nationality or favourite sports teams.

Nice skin. I like skins. It could be even nicer if other people could make skins apart from the "official"ones
+1

then entertainment team can also make a contest for the best..lets say..3 CC official skins

Soooo...what ask is...Is this Possible?

It was archived because when people don't comment on it for years, it gets archived. It hasn't been rejected and is probably something that's at least semi-feasible. I will un-archive it because there is discussion now.

i was looking at running a competition to design some but management changed and mentions of layout revamp means i didn't have a clue what's going on or if it is worth pursuing.

It`s probably best to wait until bigWham figures out what the final layout will be like. As it is currently a work-in-progress, I can`t advocate getting people to work on skins which may not work with the next layout.

i figured as much. i'd love to see a skins competition launched to coincide with the unveiling of a new layout. hopefully that's not too far away.

Well, if this were to be submitted, presumably the skins would be part of the site and people could choose. It sounds like you two are talking more like an addon.

Skins are mostly used with software, right? I don't know if I've really seen a skin for a webpage. Not sure why it's not done, but in my experience it's just not. Is there a reason for this? Or does CC have the chance to be a trendsetter here?

Keep in mind that each new skin will mean creating one new copy of each element to be loaded. That could take some time/effort to get right. It would be pretty tacky if the skin worked for most pages, but once in a while you'd see a button with the old color scheme loaded.

That said, it doesn't seem very difficult to me (which is why I'm kind of surprised it's not done for webpages). You would just load different stylesheets based on user preference. Perhaps there's just not enough value added (i.e. people don't really care) to encourage sites to do this.

My friend in college made a blog that used different stylesheets that you could select. It was king of a useless endeavour, but it is proof of principle.
