Thanks Keith ...

I'm not really sure how to get these things off the ground. I'm feeling I skipped an important step where interest in a map may be generated ;)

Well, you're doing everything right... the trouble you will find is that the more specific the geographic area, the less broad the interest will be. The trick to helping bring attention to this map will be to come up with something entirely original, either in look or in gameplay. While it's probably a fine map as it is, to 98% of us it could be absolutely anywhere in the world.

I know this may be a bit cliche, but would you consider playing up the fact that the Olympics will be there in two years? Olympic rings in the title, sports venues, that awful two-lane road to Whistler, etc. This would give the map more international cred. ;)

Thanks Oaktown, it's a traffic problem waiting to happen, right there ;) I thought about it, but wasn't sure how to use it ... maybe I'll draw up something new.

i live in coquitlam so this map has my attention but how about breaking coquitlam up into coquitlam (southern part), westwood plateau (northern part), and burke mountain (eastern part)... and break maple ridge up into golden ears (in the north), and maple ridge in the south... just my two cents 8-)

When I get to work I will doodle that up! Should the Tri-cities stay as a bonus group then, one with 7 territories in it?

I was not sure how to break up "the boonies" .. perhaps you have a better name for them too, Bavarian Raven. I will add golden ears. Two territories is too small for a bonus.

make it a seven territory bonus, just make it worth another army or two... and give me some time to think up the boonies. i have been waiting for a map of my home region for a long time 8-) also perhaps have delta worth another army, its seems a lot of territories for only 2 bonus armies

I see a little bottlenecking. Maybe also including the sky train, "bee"line, etc to connect the outer regions to the inner ones?
Just my two cents

u could have a side map for newwest minister, like they have on the roman empire map...

I like the transit idea. Now we can get from Langley/The Boonies to West Van in a reasonable number of moves. Will add proper stations, bonuses, etc.

I am very fond of the NYC map, and the sneak-attacks the trains permit.

I suppose I can put New Westminster's inset down in the bay below Delta ... hmm

It looks good, and I like the colours 8-)

One thing I would suggest is to change the sizes of some of the territores (unless you want the map to look a certain way)
The regions on the right hand side take up a lot of space, causing the ones on the left to look a lot smaller.

*edits post* :) : one more thing I might suggest is to make the border lines look more natural
eg. the Newton/Cloverdale border is a vertical line, which then joins Fleetwood; which is a hand-drawn line. Maybe you could blur the borders or something and see how it comes out ?

*edits post again* : last thing for a while (hopefully)
Those islands in the delta are the same deep pink as the bonus. Perhaps you could change the colour of them to make them look seperate ?

It sounds like I'm complaining about this map a lot lol...really I'm supporting it and trying to help you get it out there ;) Sorry about the novel ^^^

I'm not sure I can change the sizes of the territories and still remain true to the geographical form. The right-hand territories are mostly farmland, while the left-hand and central ones are high-density. I am trying to imagine how this could look ... perhaps like the San Francisco map with an aerial shot from a different angle? :/

And as for the lines - you've caught me - my PNG is very messy. I need to clean it up. I have 3-4 layers making up the black borderlines, the territories aren't solidly coloured ... it's a mess. I will work on it, and try to make more 'natural' borders. I agree, the hand-drawn fleetwood next to the bone straight border of Newton looks odd.

The island I will fade away into the sea, as not to distract from proper territory borders.

The transit ways looks great. It does help connect the map and prevent that wave that happens sometimes.
Other than cosmetic, I think it's shaping up well.

just to make the map look a bit more cool, why don't u add some mountains or forests to the north. just for visual pleasure...

[Moved]

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the CAs will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)

I played with some forest/mountains to the top ... will have to come up with some prototypes next time I'm at work (where the map lives.) The photo I stuck in there looked funny, but I think with proper effect (brightness/contrast, hue, something) it could work. Or were you thinking of hand drawn little trees and mountains? or maybe even the skyline (lions, ski hills at night, etc.)? Do I leave the USA bits as they are, or give them some interest as well?

And is there anything else, cosmetic or no, that still needs work?

Are we keeping port/border bonuses or no? The latest map lacks them.

i'm not one with graphics bt maybe scan over some of the other maps and see how they did the "surrounding" pics... thats probably the best way to go
