Postby GrudgeBringer_ on Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:23 am

Btw, the post that I was griping about Paris being too easy...we won that game... coming from the South with only 2 of our 4 team members left. I STILL think 5 neutrals are too low. By the time we got there it was held by a player that had put 1 on all the victory conditions except the foreign claim. I had 2 armies of over 30 and rolled right over him and won the game in 3 moves.

We are having the rematch right now....everyone seems to want the South regions for the troop count...there are 2 differrent colors (team members) ON the outer ring of Paris...WHY? IF everyone but one team member (4 player teams) drops on thier guy, he can clear out around (especially if spoils are dropped on him too) and have the game won in under 10 turns.

In the game we won...we had NO idea any of the victory conditions were being held by anyone..we suspected one team had it, but it turned out to be the other weaker team. We won so all my whining should go by the wayside. But Paris is just TOO FAR North, and once we all get used to it, it will become one of those maps that only a few play because a few players can win it in no time.

LOL, and YES, we do play trench/Parachute (what a GREAT addition to the game).

Again, just a players opinion....still love the map as it is without a doubt one of the prettier maps, right up there with Eurasia!! =D>

Thanks for the return... But you know, you don't especially need to take the winning victory to win the game :) Stay strong !

well this is true only because you play it in trench/parachute, as you said, and also because there is 3 teams, 2 teams changes that, although I assume with parachute you could also try a rush to objective, trench without parachute make it usually a bad move.
In all settings excluding trench, it is rarely interessant to go quickly to objective.

I've played the map quite a few and with different setting, including some trench, and objective have very rarely been used for the victory.

And, finally, changes will be made ( I believe) so that you can conquer foreign claim from neighbouring regions, with foreign claim being able to bombard paris, this should mainly solve the issue that you are raising since there is some foreing claim accesible from South and east of the map. ( which is minor and not really an issue imo, since when you play objective+trench, blocking anyone from being able to secure the objective should be a top priority in your strategy!!!)

I currently hold Paris and the Suburbs plus all foreign claims and 2 regional claims (Seine-Maritime and Euro), which I have held for one full round. Shouldn't I have won?

Donelladan wrote:Seine Maritime and Eure et Loire aren't the regional claim. You also need Manche, Calvados and Orne to have this regional claim.

To hold a regional claim you need to have all regions with the same flag on them.

Thanks for the advice, I won the game a few rounds later by taking Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud. Fortunately it was a fog game so no-one could see what I was up to ;)

Hello,

We did some updating on the xml. We have already the stamp for the xml, but after a few polls, we needed some corrections. The gameplay is changed.

The updates are :
1. Name of the suburbs
Suburbs 2 > Suburbs 92
Suburbs 3 > Suburbs 94
Suburbs 4 > Suburbs 93

Borders of :
Pyrénées-Atlantiques > add Pays-Basque territory border
Pyrénées-Orientales > add Catalogne territory border
Alpes-Maritimes > add Monaco territory border
Jura > add Jura Suisse territory border
Nord > add Wallonie territory border

The graphics have been updated in the first post. The xml have been changed here : http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=163962&p=4566115#p4566115

For Beta you don't need to go back through the XML check. I just need links to all files here in the thread. I take the files and test them on the Beta site as long as everything works I will recommend upload to the main site and pass the file onto bigWham.

please also consider using the find-and-replace function of notepad or a similar program to rename the continent bonuses as in the above examples. it's currently impossible to learn the names of the french régions just by looking at the map or the game logs.

Ian makes a good point there guys, and those abbreviations could easily be added in the open ocean south of Brittany without much trouble. Also your small image has 888's on it...

Hi. I'm playing a game on this map and I would just like to comment that the border between Charente and Charente-Maritime is somewhat hard to see. It's easy to miss the fact that Charente-Maritime borders Dordogne. Thanks.

actually, i'm suggesting only an xml change here, without any graphics update, so that the map image does not show the full région (continent) names. an example of a map that does this with region (territory) names is qwert's wwii europe, which has short names such as uk1 and f6 on the map image, but the full names of uk1- marshal park defence group and f6- pays de la loire in the xml, so that the short names make the map image easy to read, but the game log shows the full names for more atmosphere.

for france 2.1, the current région (continent) bonus code looks like the section below.

Code: Select all
<continent>
   <name>PRO</name>
   <bonus>5</bonus>
   <components>
      <territory>Vaucluse</territory>
      <territory>Bouches-du-Rhône</territory>
      <territory>Var</territory>
      <territory>Alpes de Haute Provence</territory>
      <territory>Hautes-Alpes</territory>
      <territory>Alpes-Maritimes</territory>
   </components>
</continent>

i'm suggesting a simple change so that it looks like the section below.

Code: Select all
<continent>
   <name>PRO Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur</name>
   <bonus>5</bonus>
   <components>
      <territory>Vaucluse</territory>
      <territory>Bouches-du-Rhône</territory>
      <territory>Var</territory>
      <territory>Alpes de Haute Provence</territory>
      <territory>Hautes-Alpes</territory>
      <territory>Alpes-Maritimes</territory>
   </components>
</continent>

Greetings. After playing this map, here is my personal feedback. It seems like there are too many avenues of attack/too much access to Corsica. Having fewer lanes, even 1 fewer lane, might make it more interesting.
Also, I found it kind of frustrating that some of the regional claims required 5 flags (BZH) while others only required 1 (Belfort). It didn't seem to make sense why there was a difference, but the same reward (+1 troop).
Other than that, I really liked the variety of regions and bonuses. It made the gameplay more interesting and challenging. I also like the foreign claims idea attacking Paris. Although the neutral 10 seems like quite a daunting challenge to overcome, I imagine during a game with 6 or more players, that territory could be taken pretty easily. Thanks for your hard work on this map.

Thanks for your returns, but we'ren't discussing the gameplay here... We try to validate the map and get it out of the beta ! Since the XML will be fix, I think it will be good ! :) We've done some Poll in order to take back players advices ! Not the time to change anything other than those we already proposed to the CC community !

main issue i am having so far with the map relates with the diagram in top right corner showing Paris & suburbs. I am completely unable to figure out how it maps to the game board and which areas are in Paris vs in a Suburb. Plus, there is no clues given on the diagram that relate to the map. The 3 pictures of fire?! IMHO, I would like to see the diagram redrawn.
Otherwise, game looks amazing and seems to have some real challenges to it.

thanks for improving the xml! from the insée list of départements below, i notice that most départements correctly have hyphens between each word, but that some are missing. can u please update the map and xml to include Alpes-de-Haute-Provence instead of Alpes de Haute Provence, Corse-du-Sud instead of Corse du Sud, Haute-Loire instead of Haute Loire and Tarn-et-Garonne instead of Tarn et Garonne? once u've done this, the baron will be able to check the xml and send it for upload.

the border is indeed very hard to see, so a slight change of colour will be appreciated.

i believe the diagram is clear to most players. however, it might be helpful to add very small fire symbols to the suburbs on the main map itself, for more clarity. is this quick and easy to do, without spoiling the look of the map?

almost the only thing i do not like about the graphics is that every river is a few pixels too short, so it starts at exactly the most confusing point, for example the rhône starts at exactly the point where the départements of gard, vaucluse and bouches-du-rhône meet, so it's difficult to tell whether gard and bouches-du-rhône are adjacent to each other. the rivers gironde, loire, seine and marne also start at points of maximum confusion. although i do not think the rivers have caused too many difficulties on france 2.1 so far (so no change for the rivers needed yet), it is something for u to consider, if other players also mention it in future.

ian,
obviously i'm an idiot. so explain the map to me. you "believe the diagram is clear to most players." how do you know? Most players have not been on this board yet. kind fo defeats the purpose of beta testing if u blow off feedback.

Hello everyone

I'm a frenchman and loved to play on this map on game 14749409

i fell taht thes bonuses are well adaptes to the difficulty to hold one region.

i was surprised that you have to be in Paris to attack the Foreign claims. i think the Foreign claimsshould be conquerable from nearby territories.

all in all thanks for creating that map
