Colours: Thumbs up from your colourblind friend! Well done.

Title: Option A, but please do add the quote "vivere est vincere" to it. A rough translation from Latin would be living is winning if I'm not wrong. Out of curiosity from where did you get that quote Ben?

I believe you mean colorblind fiend ;)

vivere est vincere literally means "to live is to conquer", no? What if you flip that around - vincere est vivere - to conquer is to live? I support adding that quote to option A, either as it is now or flipped around.

That will be Jupiter II, the 5th or 6th moon of Jupiter, aka Europa ;-)

The lady on the bull is the goddess Europa who was abducted (or something) by Zeus.

I think the quote was on a list of Latin phrases, and means "to live is to conquer', as Zeak correctly observed. Incidentally, it appears to have been the personal motto of Captain John Smith of Pocahontas fame, who founded most of New England

'semper regant in europa' comes from the unofficial latin lyrics to the official european anthem (Beethovens 9th Symphony), and translates as 'Always reign in Europe'.

My personal favourite of the logos is actually version E; but the vote is far from over yet ;-)

I like the stars going around option B, but it may not be my favorite font choice of the lot.

Is everybody settled on these colors then? I've been distracted by looking at the brazil revamp options!

The 3D ones wont work! You need one of the clean simple ones to fit the rest of your map.

The font of B with one of the quotes below it would work wonders.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

The only thing I have left is that on the +1 in the inset map you could put an asterisk (*) and anther on the Motherland line... otherwise it might not be immediately clear why there are two bonuses on that color region.

Other than that, yeti is right. This map needs some stamps.

You're talking about the +1 on the minimap right? Part of me isn't too sure about it being on there in any case... I can either mark it with an asterisk, or could just take it off? What say you?

cairnswk wrote:Couple of things.
1. it's starting to look really cluttered now in the legends.
you only have height of 500 in this image. Perhaps add 50px or so to the bottom of the map and take the impassables out of the bonus mini map and put them down the bottom. that would give some more space to the legend mini map.
2. not sure i like the stars in the title, although i don't like the name either - Europa - sounds like some greek goddess rather than a continental name. could it be modern "europe 2000"?
3. initially i had a little trouble working out smo and vco....i had to look for them in the key and make 2 + 3 = 4
4. the moutains look like meringue peaks straight of the oven ;) but i think they are suitable
5. had to look hard to work out what lt was between austraia and switzerland
Hope this helps some. :) Looking good.

Cairns, sorry for not responding sooner; I got distracted by the title poll etc.
1. The legend has been changed slightly since the update you commented on - is it better now?
2. The title is in the process of being changed. The name changed to Europa some time ago, following discussion about New Europe / Europe 2007/2008/MMVIII... I quite like 'Europa MMVIII' as a name...
3. Hmmm... I'll move the names up a couple of pixels to take them away from the O's. (The O's were □'s at one point but looked better as circles)
4. Mountains are hard to do; I like that you think they look like crispy meringues... tasty ;-)
5. Liechtenstein... I'm not too sure what else to do there without distorting that Austria and Switzerland border each other?
Thanks for you advice ;-)

Either would be more clear... your call. Another option would be to lose the "+1" on the minimap, but put a small white asterisk on both of the motherland territories, as well as an asterisk on the motherland bonus line below it.

here's your comment mr benn.

i never actually took a look at this until it was pretty far along on its way. it has looked good to me and very playable for a while. obviously i'm not one of those nit picky types of people. keep up the good work, can't wait to play this either, as i typically like bigger maps

Update!

  • I've removed the +1 from the minimap (for the motherland bonus) which helps avoid confusion. I experimneted with putting an asterisk/other symbol there, but this didn't help clarity.
  • I've also made the 'motherland' text less fuzzy.
  • The territory labels for San Marino (sm) and Vatican City (vc) have been shifted so that they don't look like smo/vco
  • The title is temporarily absent - I've asked that the poll be removed, and I'll have a look at trying something based upon the outcome of that!

If you hold kgd and Russia you get +1. If you hold those two plus Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, you get another +3, for a total of +4, right?
