Conqueror in the Making?

Postby Valdus on Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:27 pm

Found this site, one of my favorite games of all time. But alas, like chess, I am rather bad at it. Looking forward to gaming with some of you.

Point me to the Potatoes!

Does that mean that I should not throw all my armies into one place? I have found that to be rather advantageous, especially on individual continents.

OK, take a look at some of the other student posts so you can see how we give advice.

First, read the first four moves stickie -- reread it often.

second, join a game with the correct settings -- I will send you an invite to one.

Third, post using the form when your turn arrives and let us know what you want to do; we will then advise you.

What I'm alluding to is the understanding that you need to have openings to be able to do many things. Even if most of those plays are ones you won't take, their possibility is a threat to other players that they'll have to take into account. If you have the same general focus throughout a battle, you'll be easier to predict, and predicting an opponent's moves makes them easier to beat.

Always Plan B

No I got you, one thing I learned in chess (bad at that too) is that when you have a plan, there is the need for another plan, in case plan A does not work.

Not only that, but my students ( I teach High School) in my Western Civ class have gone completely bananas over this site (yeah when you got five minutes left on a Friday, you grab hold of anything). Since they are not taught geography, they are just COACHED, they could use some practice in where countries are.

Any suggestions on how to bring CC into the classroom, by all means. Perhaps Ill make this a thread of its own.
