IP Question

i know people talk on here about IP checks, but back in the day - didn't ISP providers like aol assign you a diff IP address every time you logged on? also, aren't there websites that will allow you to change your internet footprints but assigning you a diff IP?
i guess what i'm asking is - are there other methods for busting people besides IP checks because it seems to me that a savvy user could circumvent this pretty easily.

i dont know about that, me and my brother got temporally baned, just because we had the same ip... and we only played 2 games together, both times on the same team... it took a whole month to get back...

Media Access Control.
It's a hex number that's unique to each network adapter. Finding the MAC address can distinguish between people that play on the same network and might have the same IP, and people who play on the same computer.
But even finding someone's MAC address isn't the end, since you can get around this as well.

Unfortunately mistakes do happen because it can be very hard to distinguish between multiple users on the same computer and one person with multiple names. But rest assured there is a lot more to the system than an IP check, and the appeal process hopefully sorts out most mistakes that are made against family members sharing a computer.

And this can be a real F*CKING pain in the ass for people like me because pretty much the only time me and my friends play is together from school. And our school computers all have the same IP.

and yet they still managed to "bust" my BF and i for multiple accounts...took me a while to get that one cleared up...

And that is the reason we don't rely on IP checks, as stated previously.
