MOBAJOBG - Farming [warned]

Accused:

MOBAJOBG

The accused are suspected of:

Other: Farming

Game number(s):

See list below.

Comments: Checking his games, first page (100 games shown), 30 games are 1 v. 1 games played against ?s at the time of the initiation of respective game. That corresponds then to 30% of the last 100 games being played against ?s.

The list is structured as follows:
- Game number for respective game against a ?.
- “Still ?” refers to the opponent still being shown as a ?.
- “Game no X…” refers to what game in order the opponent started/joined. The opponent is not still being shown as ?, but were a ?s at the time respective game was initiated (having cross-checked game initiation date/time with previously started games’ end time).

I’m not the biggest fan of the anti-farming rule, but I recognize that it serves a purpose. And 30% games against ?s seems like farming to me.

Game 5377931 – Still ?
Game 5377866 – Still ?
Game 5377598 – Game no 5 (? at time of joining)
Game 5371973 – Game no 7 (? at time of joining)

One of the original 1v1 farmers, returning to his old ways.

If they let this slide, maybe JR will actually be able to reach conqueror.

Some players have been farming extensively - even sending hundreds of PMs to the latest members to get them into their games.

This is a gross abuse of the game. It gives the New Recruit "victims" a poor first experience and reduces the chances of them sticking around. As farmers move up the scoreboard it also harms the competitive nature of Conquer Club - the scoreboard is meant to measure skill in the game, not "harvesting" techniques.

In accordance with the desires and feedback of the majority of the community, our rules and as a new leaf for 2009, it is our New Years resolution to make Newbie Farming forbidden. Members who continue this practice will receive point resets and then progressively longer website bans.

This does not mean you will get in trouble for joining a game here and there with many new recruits. We are only talking about the systematic targeting of new recruits.

We have taken the following measures to stop Newbie Farming:

* For New Recruits, we filtered out game options from the join page if they reduce the chance of new players reaching their 1st promotion (see here here and here).
* We shut down any usergroups with a focus on Newbie Farming.
* We are sending individual warnings to the Farmers Guild and select other users who have practiced farming in the past. These should be arriving soon.

If you don't officially receive a warning, consider this it...we may have overlooked you once, but we won't do it again.

alstergren and to the others, which part of lackattack's declarations/instructions that you don't understand? (Please refer to the paragraph which has been bold, italic and underline.)

Trust me when I say, I love to meet new people in real life hence I would just join new recruits game every now and then to welcome them into Conquer Club. For your information, whenever I feel that a new recruit who is struggling needs a helping hand in our game, I would gladly extent my assistance by imparting beginners *Hints & Tips* in the Game Chat.

I've received quite a lot of "friendly", "helpful" and "good strategy" tags from new recruits who I'd played against but I know my limits NOT to play such games by more than 1/3 of my total games. So, my hope is that they would actually have a pleasant gaming experience.

Thanks & best of regards.

Not choosing sides here, but I was bored and decided to check the game chats to see if you actually do help them out. I checked 10 - 12 games with question marks (all of whom lost to you) and I saw the same statement - "hi welcome to conquer club" or whatever. In two games you did go into detail to assist them, but at the end of the day you know you aren't going to lose to them so why bother crushing what little confidence they have?

Meeting people is great but when your pretty much guaranteed the win (the big 7 points you get for being a colonel) it kind of defeats the purpose. If newbies join a game you created so be it. There are many other people you can meet that you haven't yet played, that are far more skilled than newbies. I will admit though, you have a slew of good ratings.

Interesting. I did a quick search of MOBAJOBG's games and saw that there were a lot of 1 v 1 games against low-ranked players. Also, MOBAJOBG joined the games, rather than setting them up, so he already knew that they were low-ranked players.

So I guess this is what is meant by 'farming'. (It is possible that a lot of them might have been new recruits at the time and have since been promoted).

Whilst we are on the subject anyone reading this might want to put this into their "research".

Number of players - 2

Joinability - Public

What's the difference?

I will keep my eye on this. If found guilty, he will be added to the wall of shame. Players dont understand and try to still bend the rules. JUST DONT PLAY NEW RECRUITS. Its that simple.

um...which part of them dont you understand.... if thirty games out of 100 isnt systematic, nothing is.

Its a nice try on the im helping them out by posting the same welcome greeting everytime, but I dont even think any of the noobs would be fooled by this. Certainly no one else is.

You could always just not farm noobs, and just play people that have played 5 games. They would be just as new to conquer club, and would still probably need advice, and would give you the sense of meeting new people....

granted....not as many of them would be around as the ?'s, since so many of them leave without finishing their games, but thats kind of the point of the no farming rule

In response to your changed plan... Do you actually think that playing 30 new recruits inside of a month, most of which deadbeated as most do, actually is not farming? And if not, than what is farming, if not that?

I'm in favour of zero points for deadbeats of any new recruits and since I'm a freemium, I definitely don't want anybody to deadbeat.

As far as I'm concerned based on lackattack's "...joining a game here and there..." phrase, I've interpreted and understood it as "I won't get into any trouble if 2/3 of my games are played against non new recruits". Otherwise, please make it crystal clear with an illustration of facts and figures in the "New Years Resolution: Newbie Farming is not Cool" thread.

systematic, means joining lots of games against new recruits 10 would be farming, 20 most certainly... 30 in less than a month is crystal clear. I personally havent seen any more crystal clear cases, since the rule was established to be honest.

this is the most blantant form of farming that I can think of. Also pretty pathetic if you ask me. You have won 85% of your games for crying out loud. How can this even be considered fun for you? Mods, can you take care of this guy and put a big old

I'm the kind of person who would NOT intentionally break any official rules and regulations under whatsoever circumstances, had I know of those facts and figures earlier which you've presented I won't play more than 5 new recruit games out of every 100 games.

Thanks, AAFitz for taking the time and effort to provide a detailed explanation here. I've always wanted to challenge you in a 1vs1 game on World 2.1 map.

Kindly allow me to clarify and stress that the plain & simple motivation for me to play games in Conquer Club is to join (and not start, because my favourite colour is green) 1vs1 game against new recruits every now and then but still within 1/3 out of my every 100 games with the sole intention to extent my assistance for those who are struggling by imparting beginners *Hints & Tips* in the Game Chat. I don't care about points, period. My hope is that those new recruits whom I've advised, have learn something beneficial to improve upon their gameplay so that they can approach their next and future games more confidently. When I can't do what I really love to do, perhaps the time has come for me to retire from this fabulous site and move on in life that is to take over from my wife the role to put fertiliser around and water the plants in my spare time.

I apologise (in advance if I've committed any wrongdoings) to the site owner, lackattack for any harm that I've created or done due to my ignorance of the site's official rules and regulations which I certainly did not mean to abuse.

I'm not that bothered by farming myself but I have to say I just love your defense. Can we get you a special medal for 'Most bullshit in the C and A Forum 2009'?

You'd seriously deserve it.

Here we were all thinking that your win rate reflected the kind of personality who enjoyed picking fights with chaps a third of their weight, but we've in fact now all realised that it actually reflects your naturally giving, alturistic nature!

Bravo that man! I can but think you run an aids clinic in deepest darkest Africa, or teach autistic children how to make friends, or train guide dogs for the blind in your spare time... when you're not organising green peace's efforts against nuclear testing of course.

In my residential community, I'm a willing volunteer who contributes my spare time and effort freely without any monetary gains or compensation to resolve all disputes and complaints as well as service whatever requests that are raised by the people.

Unfortunately, I can't do the Big Undertakings which you've described now or ever but this does not deter me to work on the smallest of issues which I can perform with success and within my limited ability.

That's lovely. However, any chap who claims he joins noob games because he prefers the colour green (barf!) and has a 85% win rate because he enjoys teaching noobs how to play (hoot!) rather than because of some sad attempt to gain points against the incapable, is rather failing the old credibility test don't you think?

Come on, just admit it! You enjoy farming! Glory in your achievement! Don't lower yourself by spouting out all this crap.

As I've said before, I don't care about points and what I've said are the truth. I've left the Farmers' Guild before it was disbanded because I can't accept their practise.

I don't care about points, period. My hope is that those new recruits whom I've advised, have learn something beneficial to improve upon their gameplay so that they can approach their next and future games more confidently.

Yeah, you really gave great, mentor-like advice to the poor bastard in Game 5356754. Not that he would have read it, since he deadbeated in 3 turns, but at least a hearty "welcome to cc, good luck!" would have been a nice gesture, to say nothing of these impromptu strategic tutoring sessions you refer to.

Tho I will say, the fact that a ? is even able to start a 1v1 Age of Merchants freestyle unlimited game is a sad commentary on this site. So it's not like it's entirely your fault, in a "can't blame a predator for going after weak prey" sense.

Sorry but I must have missed typing in "hi, gl and welcome to Conquer Club" in that game so I believe it's an exception rather than the norm. Please allow me to make a few mistakes in every 100 games because I don't claim to be perfect.

After I've read all the comments in this thread again, I've reached a decision that JR24 is right "JUST DONT PLAY NEW RECRUITS. Its that simple." and will simply just retire from here now.

Selamat tinggal.

Well Bobajob...I am amazed you are still conducting this kind of warfare. It is testament to your skill that since last August 2008 you have managed to shed points AND drop your RR from 0.514 to 0.467
