If you are PM'd to form an alliance, what do you do?

I know the part about not accepting

What else should be done?

report it in the 'cheating & abuse forum'
it's certainly cheating... it's one of only 2 rules!

i'de also leave negative feedback... because even if they are not banned (i'm not sure about the protocol for banning) others should be aware of this since it's probably not just a one time thing.

it says No secret alliances
it does not state that you cant discuss them in pm's.

i would either agree, or not agree with a proposed allience.
if i did agree i would post it in chat
if i did not agree, i might post it in chat if i thought i would make anybody angry enough to kill off the other person.

i have yet to form an alliance because i think alliances suck, and should belong to doubles and triples games.
but whatever tickles your fancy

i agree, the only reason i would report it is if they specificly asked for a secrect aliance...

I call Bullshit on pm. It has been thrashed over hundreds of times; all chat re: alliances needs to be in the public chat - NOT pm, in singles games. Get a spine and balls and play; if you are one to make alliances then dont be afraid....

With honorable players, I either politely inform the offending pm'er assuming they made a mistake......also, I have simply copied the pm into the chat and basically everyone axes the offending person as those types are not welcome in real games.

*awaits nasty flamage!*

i wouldnt do it...

however...proposing it in pm is not illegal...entering into it secretly is...if you announce it...its not secret...the reason you might do this is because if you propose it and the player denies, you may be hit with revenge attacks which would cost you the game...you propose it and denied...no effect...i personally let the other person know right away that the offer was made...makes the other player mad enough to hit him...but you cant get mad at someone for proposing an announced treaty anymore than you can blame two roomates from proposing one...its the having one and not announcing it thats the violation...

AAFitz... nice game of semantics...

So... you can propose, hash out, and discuss all of the details in PMs, as long as you say in chat "Oh yeah, by the way, we have agreed on an alliance." It's bullshit. Then again, alliances are for leaking vaginas.

Thank you Owly...perfectly succinct...there you have it. I agree completely.....

Yo pm guy...did you read the Spine and Balls theorem?

Alliance PMs

I don't see anything in the rules prohibiting the discussion of alliances using pms. I think that even among law abiding citizens this is common practice. What you do when such a pm comes to you is your business.

Of course, once an alliance is formed you MUST announce it in the chat.

Personally, whenever I receive anything like that, or even see any discussion, or announcement, of alliances in a game, I immediately announce that it's my Personal Policy to immediately kamikazi alliance makers.....lol

The best way to deal with this is to just not play with people that form alliances.

It's not as impractical as you might think. I have played online Risk for many years and seldom find myself in a game with alliance makers. This was one reason that clans first got started in online risk. Your clan mates are your best protection against people ganging up on you.

Also, it's very common for people to continue playing with others with whom they've had fun games. I think most experienced players sort of play with the same crowd all of the time.

There's even one group here that has publically disavowed alliances and hosts private games all the time.

How, then is the 'No Secret Alliance' rule to be enforced if the PM's they request them in are inadmissable as evidence? Does the recipient have to accept the invitation to warrant action against the offender?

good point. i hadn't thought about that.

that is difficult for new-ish people, like me, though. what group to join? how do i know they aren't friends already, and will align against me? i guess it always comes down to trust at some point... and it's easier to trust your fellow group members

as i said

first off your the lawyer...second, i dont do it and dont think its cool either...however...banning all alliances and talk about them is absolutely ridiculous...it sucks being teamed but you have to deal with it...i doubt Hitler enjoyed the allies banning together, but it seemed like the thing to do...and perhaps the world is a better place....this is the same map they used...they had alliances...they talked...."secretly" this is a war simulation not frign checkers....go play connect four if you cant handle the "semantics"...if its anounced its legal and part of the game...the old rule in the board game was whoever got up to ps first lost...am i wrong...

also i must add

lack and the moderators also probably...probably have better things to do than track down every time someone entered into an alliance...if you know for sure that its secret and illegal, then obviously report it. However, the reason he added the feedback option is to weed out cheaters ourselves...if your sure, leave a neg feedback, they get read...i read everyone before i play with someone...havent read a positive in a while...but your suggesting pm lack with every offer of a possibly legal game strategy, which seems a little unfair....just put it in the neg fdbk...take it on yourself....say...offered alliance in chat, and that you disagree with the practice...he gets four of those...he at least has to change what hes doing or give up...ie saving the moderators from 10000 hours of researching silly claims...I myself have cant worry about it..ive crushed the few cheaters ive known for sure were cheating...just my opinion...even the mods may disagree...
