For the record,

it is only ok if and when everyone in the game agrees to allow a designated person to play for the other one...and is generally frowned upon if both players are in the same game...because that is rather multi-ish.

But in a doubles match, it doesn't matter, right? If it was a standard set up, I could see the issue, but team members are basically taking each others turns anyways if they communicate well enough.

That's for each game to decide.

there is a difference when it comes to coordinating two people and having one person play the games.

Most people will mind less in a doubles game, many wont give a damn, but some might...I probably would if it was me and I didnt know...but mostly just because I like to know who, how and when I am playing someone.
