Accused:
commanderdave

The accused are suspected of:
Farming New Recruits

show: Game numbers

Comments:

Ladies and Gentlemen step right up! for a limited time only even YOU can attain a really high rank!!!
what's that you say?

"i only win 20% of my games"
well not a problem! just set up 10+ 5 person games on simple maps at a time and wait for the new recruits to jump in the boat!
"what about other players joining"?
no worries my friends... that's why you set up so many of them at a time... even if someone wants to join 1 or 2 there's no way they are joining all of them, and after a few minutes these games are off the back page and just waiting to be shuffled to the front of the new recruits' join games pages...
"but won't they be at the front of a normal players page as well"
no sir! because the games at the front of our pages are team games and games that are on complicated maps... new recruits don't even see those!!! so its almost impossible for anyone BUT new recruits to join your games, unless they are purposefully seeking out those random settings you created!!!

edit: wait no sorry guys this has been proven to be a no-no so don't do it

Holy shit that's a lot of games.

Point reset at the least, plus at least a month vacation because this is VERY intentional.

I don't think he will get a point reset. Cases like this in the past the accused has been asked to change from 5 player to 6 player games for example

hummmm i just looked at this guys game page. and although he does have a lot of games joined by new recruits he also has a lot of games he plays...

looks tome like ww2 western front is his fav map this can be seen because he plays a lot of 6 player doubles games on this as well. fact also he changes the maps. i do not think this is a farming case i think this is more a case of a player wanting to play and n/r's keep on joining his games. he is not creating 1 map 1 setting all the time to attract new recruits he keeps on changing the map..

Or he changes things around a little not to make it too obvious? You make a bunch of 5-player games you know what will happen. I like 5-player esc too, but if i feel like playing it I put them in callouts with a PW, open for all, jsut stops NR's arriving en mass.
At the very least he thinks it's fine that 90% of his 5player games are filling with NR's only. instead of doing a simple thing like I suggested above he is content to play large amoutns of games against NRs.

I still maintain that if you're not inviting noobs to your games and so they're just joining a public game, you shouldn't be punished as you're not at all controlling who may or may not join your game. I really believe the C&A mods screwed the pooch on that precedent.

For me, it's when the invite system is being used OR the individual who is "farming" is the one joining the games that already have the noobs in them that's a problem.

I agree, Woodruff hit it on the head here.

commanderdave has been warned for farming.

After reviewing the history, the user was attracting a disproportionate number of new recruits to his games. This can be avoided by changing the game to 6, 7, or 8 player which the accused has been advised to do in the future.

Punishment Scale for Farming
Warning
1 Month New Recruit Vacation
3 Month New Recruit Vacation
Permanent New Recruit Vacation

This is dumb. If creating 5 player games is against the rules, either state it in the rules or remove the option. You also could put the code in to disable the option by the users score. Either way it is ridiculous to punish someone for this.

Systematically Farming "New Recruits"

If you are found guilty of New Recruit Farming---that is, systematically joining games with New Recruits. Systematically Farming "New Recruits" may also systematically creating unappealing games that more savvy users avoid because of unpopular or niche game settings, thus luring New Recruits into stumbling into said games. Either of these practices are done in order to "farm" newbies for points, and if you find yourself doing one or both of these practices, you will find yourself escalating on the New Recruit Farming Vacation scale.

what's the "standard" definition of an unappealing game then? While I do agree with the ruling, this whole rule set of creating unpopular games is stupid. If he likes the setting, let him play it. Its not his job to monitor his games on who is joining. There needs to be some form up submitted suggestion to allow us to prevent NR from joining a game when he sets them up. We have many options already, why not like a "check box" that says block this game from the NR list that can be seen.

well yipee,

how many people want to prevent new recruits from joining there games... i have seen many saying this...

well this is how to do it.

create the 5 player game mentioned in the op same settings report yourself when warned tell them to get notted create another load report again do this 4 times then you get the n/r ban you wanted.

That is bullshit. Don't quote this vague statement like it specifically states that creating 5 player games is against the rules. If you don't have anything better than this to refer to for a rule reference then you either need to specify 5 player games or remove the option altogether. Or even as has been suggested previously, present the option to ban NRs from joining. You could even just ban NRs from all 5 player games since you think that they are unable to handle it. I don't really care but don't go pushing bullshit on the rest of us. Currently creating 5 player games is an option that we have here at CC. I see no reason not to do so as long as this remains so. Personally I don't see anything wrong with a 5 player game but if the site does then it should do something about it and let its players play the game.

Thanks,

J

The problem is once a new recruit joins the game nobody else will ???

once a new recruit joins a game other new recruits join it as they see the ? rank same as theres.

meanwhile players who play games dont get them filled because of this and 5 player is a big difference to 6 player on starting positions etc. it has also been mentioned before to limit new recruits to 1 only allowed in the game(denied). and bg please tell me from your quote 3 things..
systematically creating unappealing games that more savvy users avoid because of unpopular or niche game settings, thus luring New Recruits into stumbling into said games.

1) the 3 maps he was using were these difficult maps
ww2 europe western (has a small bombard area uk only difficult part to it.)
cairns coast(basic play map like classic.)
portugal (basic play map like classic)

i do not class these in the same tense as feudal das scholls city mougal and a few others they are basic maps.
systematically creating unappealing games that more savvy users avoid because of unpopular or niche game settings, thus luring New Recruits into stumbling into said games.

2) the settings he uses..
standard
automatic
no spoils
unlimited
fog

plz point out the difficult setting here for a basic map...

3)know look at you awnser to ? 1 and 2 then tell me he was picking awkward maps and settings. and if these are classed as such then they need to be removed from new recruits joining them.

I feel like you guys missed something...

jghost7 wrote: If creating 5 player games is against the rules, either state it in the rules or remove the option

making 5 player games isn't against the rules... making a bunch of them at a time is...

Click Join Games, now look at the games on the first page... Guess what? new recruits do not see these games...

They only see simple 5 player and under, non-difficult map games...

Now how could i get MY 5 player game to show up right there for them to join? why... make a ton of them at one time so its impossible for all of them to fill with actual players...

eddie2 wrote:The problem is once a new recruit joins the game nobody else will ???

The problem is that once these games hit the front of the new recruit page... they fill within MINUTES... and WE never even knew the games existed...

eddie2 wrote:he is not creating 1 map 1 setting all the time to attract new recruits he keeps on changing the map..

the guy changed maps because he's not an idiot, and thought he could skate the rule...

quick... make 20 games on 20 different simple maps with these settings "no spoils, adjacent reinforcements" (make sure the map isnt stupidly simple like lux)

no psycho is going to join more than maybe 1 of these games while they are on the back page... and within 15 minutes, they are gone baby gone off the back page and just waiting a day or 2 on the new recruit train to roll in...

ok for starters they were unlimited forts not adjacent    ..

and if this is how it is happening would it make it easier to code that games cannot go to new recruit list till they been on the normal page for 1 week. then that will make it easier ???

Hells no just give us the option to block NR's from our games. Its that simple. I asked KA once if he would just make it where NR's couldnt join my games,he told me no.

But this is going to be the backlash, commanderdave farming or not,if you like 5 player games odds are sooner or later you will be answering questions if you play alot of games.

Once again, this is not stated anywhere in the rules. If there is a limit then there should be a note addressing it or a hard limit implemented by code. If the only reason bringing attention to 5 player games is NRs, then they should address it from that direction rather than from the creators of the game. Plenty of solutions, with this warning being among the worst.

You are making assumptions regarding another players intent, dramatizing it to make it sound like it was his intent to farm. Either way, he should be able to create the games that he enjoys playing without being subject to this. There are too many possible solutions for this perceived issue for it to have to depend on a vague statement of a rule.

The ability to prevent NRs from joining specific games is already a feature of the site as is evident by the ability to enforce a 'New Recruit Vacation'. If you are going to try to punish players for playing NRs at least give them the option to screen them out so that you can eliminate 5 players games from CCs vague ass rule.

Thanks,

J
