You should get a warning as well bhamade.
I was calling myself what he called me. I didn't use it against anyone or to show homophobia. I actually have gay friends and take the word seriously.
I love it when people justify their actions by saying they have black/gay/whatever friends. It brings joy to my heart.
You are correct in that context matters. For instance, quoting what you said in this relevant thread in this relevant forum will not attract a warning for me.
However, in what context are you using it? Maybe, just maybe, if you had said "Hey man just so you know using "faggot" is disallowed and you can get warned for it." then you would have an acceptable context case.
Maybe. But you used it in an insulting phrase, taunting your opponent.
Bigotry includes racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia/sexual orientation bashing, religion bashing, lack of religion bashing, or wishing violence on any group of people, etc.
Bigotry takes into account historic events, emotional baggage and generally accepted associations with a term, phrase or intent - posting "White Power" in a topic has a history and is bigoted, posting "Green Power" makes you an environmentalist.
Bigotry will get your post edited/deleted and you will receive a disciplinary action from a mod. Bigotry, just avoid it. Just do it.
Think about it: without his initial use of the word, and you said what you said, don't you think you would get warned for it? The self-deprecating defense doesn't really hold water since someone cannot throw around the n-word in games then upload a screenshot showing that they're black in order to try to avoid a warning. That would just be ridiculous.
I think the worst part, and what makes your offense even worse than what your accuser did, is that you absolutely knew that the word is disallowed, and you apparently express loyalty to the spirit of the rule, yet you still used it in an insulting phrase. At least your accuser can claim ignorance (not that it would help him) but you tried to one-up him by somehow thinking that you could use a word because you "have gay friends" (lol) and because he apparently has no gay friends he cannot use it.
This is true discrimination - to say one type of person can say a word but another cannot, and is a reason why the bigotry guidelines are so strict, because CC doesn't want to have to determine who should or should not be allowed to use inflammatory language like "faggot." Bigotry - just avoid it.
