HuSongHua skipping turns on purpose [cleared] BG

Accused:

HuSongHua
Gormbroc

The accused are suspected of:

Skipping turns on purpose to avoid nuking the last territory of another

Game number(s):

Game 11044003

Comments:

HuSongHua has 5 spoils in a nuclear assassin game, and he's forced to play a set that will kill my target.

To avoid that, he ships the turn on purpose, as it can be directly read in the log, upon Gormbroc's suggestion

(despite the victim itself telling that would be unfair)

2012-05-17 22:45:20 - HuSongHua: red, you have to move, or it's game over
2012-05-18 19:01:33 - Gormbroc: made it easier for ya
2012-05-18 19:02:03 - Gormbroc: Pink, you'll want to move that stack, don't want to leave you easy pickins
2012-05-19 21:29:33 - Gormbroc: looks like you got it Pink
2012-05-20 01:17:32 - Gormbroc: HuSong, you can let the clock run out and skip your turn and avoid nuking Red
2012-05-20 08:36:13 - HuSongHua: don't like it, but looks like it's the only option I have

***

Now wasn't there a rule against this kind of deliberate exploit of turn skipping?

There is nothing illegal about not finishing a turn. Its just unethical and poor sportsman ship to not play the game the way it was inteneded to be played.

Foe and move on.

Your suggestion is simple and efficient, my concern is that by now I would have won a 8-ppl assassin game by now.

While I can agree that the score is not pivotal in the game, especially at my level, I find that when I lose because of bad deployements, bad dice or genuine mistakes of mine I get frustrated.

I'd like to win when I deserve it.

Evolution299 is totally right, this is a valid move... if you don't like it FAMO.... or also if it annnoys you so much you can make a suggestion about punish unfinished turns (well, he won't recover his troops if he only begins turn, its easier to loss a turn)...
Anyway it seems you are going to win, red thinks he should be nuked, probably he won't assaultyou...

na this is not a case of not finishing his turn (which should be against site rules.)

this is a case about intentional missing of turns and is against site rules...

the precident was set against wiseviking who has had several vacations for missing turns.

also by the positioning of the game red won't be able to move off this next turn so you could also take into account throwing of the game for his missing of turns.

Missing a turn is not against the rules.

In order for this to be punishable, the offenders would have had to miss 3 straight turns and get kicked for deadbeating.
After that, we would need a few more examples showing more deadbeating.

Personally, I wouldnt do the tactic since I think it is in poor taste, but it does not break any rules.

yes it is where do we start. lets give some examples.

missing the opening turn in freestyle games is classed as abuse of the game engine so this is the same.

holding a player hostage is classed as abuse of the game (not playing his turn is delaying the end of the game. by 24 hours.)

holding the card and not using it is also throwing the game to another player.

also not taking the turn is also classed as not playing the game as the way it is intended. (which has been used before in cases.)

this is 5 rule breaches this could come under. and rules that have been used in the past. this is not the same as the not ending turns (which is abuse of the game engine) but is not classed as that this is intentional missing of the turn/ throwing the game. because if red does not attack for the next 2 rounds then he will intentionally deadbeat it. this is the first time a case like this has been presented so needs to be dealt with as a breach, or else you are giving players a case to landmark a intentional deadbeat of a game.

Eddie wrote exactly what I think, and in a way much clearer than I could possibly do.

I respect the decision, but aside the fact that it leaves a bad aftertaste, I wonder whether one should try and play a decent game under these conditions.

As I posted in the game chat, I was conflicted about it, and I certainly respect the opinion of anyone who believes it to be cheap tactics. It's not my usual style, so I hope anyone who was playing against me for the first time will chose not to foe me, and give me another chance.

While it was certainly questionable tactics, I did not think it was cheating, and I appreciate being cleared. What I did was in the spirit of competition, using every legal means at my disposal to try to win the game.

Sorry for messing up the game for you Checco (and to any other player who thinks it sucked)

If I'm foed plus bad rating for this I'll take it.

Skipping my turn looked like the only option in a weird situation like this (never had one like this).
And yes, it felt like a crap move while doing it ("HuSongHua: don't like it, but looks like it's the only option I have)

I always try to play as fair as possible, not breaking truces, using secret diplomacy, ...., or skipping turns intentionally.
Made a slip there.
