**EDIT** -- I wish to retract my accusation. while the discussion was suspicious, there was dialogue about a full, in-game disclosure if an agreement was reached. it does not appear such an agreement WAS reached and the game log reflects that. I apologize to both players for jumping the gun on this one.

Pyotr1721pfleegmanThe accused are suspected of:
Conducting Secret Diplomacy

Dear Administrator:
While I am confident that I'll be cleared of this charge quickly -- all of the posts that are alleged to be "secret diplomacy" occurred within three minutes at the end of the game only a few hours before this accusation was leveled and explicitly included my pledge to disclose everything to the players on the map I share with my accuser -- I am writing not to defend myself, but in support of Pfleegman.
If there is any fault to be found in my desperation proposal, the fault is with me. Pfleegman was merely the player to whom the proposal was made and he immediately and without qualification rejected it. There is nothing more anyone could expect of him and it would be terribly unjust for any blame to attach to what is obviously an innocent player.
On my behalf, all I ask is for a quick adjudication of this painful matter.
Sincerely,
Pyotr1721

Well, all diplomatic discussions, including proposing truces must be in game chat, so this clearly breaches the secret diplomacy rules. I would imagine the only way to make the type of deal that you were proposing would be to post each message in the game chat of both games while negotiating. That being said, my personal opinion is that any kind of multi-game diplomacy (particularly involving different players) breaks the spirit of the rules if not the actual rules themselves.

There was no diplomacy, secret or any other kind. Had there been any agreements to be made they would have been disclosed in the chat of the game the agreement applied to. I have played many games with Pyotr and he has been nothing but honorable in every game. Suggesting we make a deal in another game is not making a deal. Again, if there was or is any deal to be made it will be made in the chat of that game as it has always been with Py and me.

I enthusastically agree with you that everything should be posted in both windows. I have been the victim of secret diplomacy in the past and I hate the practice as vehemently as anyone else on this site. Ironically enough, I've actually considered volunteering my time to be one of the monitors to help ferret it out and here I stand, accused of it.
But if you check the chat record, I made it very clear to Pfleegman that all of this would be disclosed in the other game. Never for a second would I have considered doing otherwise because that would, indeed, be secret diplomacy and a blatant violation of the rules. However, because Pfleegman rejected the idea in real time, then promptly eliminated me from the game, rendering the offer pointless, I didn't see there as being anything to disclose.
On the issue of cross-map diplomacy, I personal support it being explicitly banned in the site rules. As you said, it isn't consistent with the spirit of fair play and I regret having suggested it. However, despite my opinion that it should be banned, cross-map diplomacy is not forbidden in the rules as they currently read. In the spur of the moment, trying to salvage a game being played in real time, I proposed a plan that we can agree doesn't speak well of me. But so long as it isn't illegal, I don't feel I should be sanctioned for it.
Thank you for your contribution to the discussion and I look forward to playing with you in the future.
Sincerely,
Pyotr1721

Dear Administrator:
Though I firmly maintain my innocence, I think it is in the best interest of everyone involved that I be removed from the game on the British Isles map. If you are able to have me removed, I would sincerely appreciate it.
Thank You,
Pyotr1721
