sarcasm - a cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound
Suggesting someone commit suicide in a message board disagreement and doing so with the intent to emotionally wound them (sarcasm) is reckless and irresponsible. The fulfillment of any type of effort to emotionally wound someone is the creation of emotional fragility. Suicide is an act borne of states of emotional fragility.
The seriousness and gravity of this exceptionally poor choice of words can not be understated and requires aggressive punitive action.
Well argued!
Hey woody this is similar to that death threat you were chirping about being made against you isn't it.
Mental anguish and all that.
Not really, no. Firstly it wasnt a threat. Secondly it wasnt a even a suggestion, I was just pointing another course of action that could be taken. If you cant live with that maybe you should.........well, no I'd better not, considering everyones emotional fragility.
Because "suicide" is another course of action that could be taken in
any scenario posited in
any post on CC but rarely is, uniquely raising it is an option with a poster with whom you disagree transforms the observation into an
observation with intent, the course of action in question being a violent crime: killing a human.
As a former mental health professional I can state, affirmatively, that using exhortations of suicide to communicate your point can have disastrous consequences and has the potential to provoke a shared psychotic disorder even in disinterested observers. It should be penalized with the most serious sanction possible so as to mitigate the potential for it occurring again.
