Racism is a powerful word that is all too often misappropriated by people for petty and selfish reasons. At the most our sig featured stereotypical images. Racism is indicative of a willful hatred directed at a group of people simply for being that race or culture. Displaying a Native American headdress in a sig honoring Thanksgiving is about as racist as a black actor appearing in a commercial for KFC.

Please do not belittle the mistreatment of Native Americans in this country by suggesting that this image is racist.

You can tell Thanksgiving is right around the bend...the time of year where that one kid who's 1/8 Native American does a book report about the atrocities of the pilgrims, and then goes on internet tirades about how evil the white man is. Don't worry, he'll forget it about it in a week or so.

Also I'm friends with some Native Americans that are 100% Native American and still practice all the old traditions and they aren't offended. They also celebrate Thanksgiving.

Are you kidding right? This was the bandit's Thanksgiving celebration signature. We all wore it for about 2 weeks either last year or the year before to celebrate this American holiday and no problems were raised.

I am Native American and I do not find it offensive. I mother is a full-blooded Plains Cree, and I am 3/4. I also live near one of the biggest native reserves in Alberta Canada. I've seen racism towards Native Americans, and this, is no where close from what I've seen.

Our History Curriculum always told us that Columbus never got to the mainland of North America, just Cuba and a coupla other islands...did he actually ever come face to face with any Native Americans...if so are there still groups in Cuba who define themselves as Native American?...serious question pps...I visited Cuba in 1985 and found no evidence of such but doesn't mean it's not so?
