let this be a good example on why we should not hand out passwords. it doesnt matter if the password was just handed out to benji. somehow his wife got it and caused issues. but like King Achilles just said, they dont know if it was benji or his wife or both. now we have 50 games that were won by a player where benji ( the player we issued the password too ) or his wife ( since we dont know who )or both ( since we permit players to use the same IP ) set up. Again, dont hand out passwords.

Um, this whole widow thing was a total outlier. 99.99% of the time, giving your pw to someone who's going to account-sit for you is perfectly harmless. Seriously, JR, what's your big beef with this? Most people, ESPECIALLY around this time of year, have RL commitments that might impede their play. Would you prefer that they deadbeat?

Ah but Incan, some people have no commitments. Some people have a sad life alone

To be fair, I'm not trying to bash JR or imply that he has a sad life or anything... it's more that account-sitting happens every single day here (I've account-sat for several different people, and several different people have done the same for me), and to take the one single solitary time where the whole concept went horribly horribly wrong and use that to paint account-sitting with that brush is disingenuous, to say the least.

I dont have a problem with a player for example

hey player x... im going to be gone this weekend can you look after my account for me. He responds yes and that is when you issue him your password. Once you return home you change it. That example is fine and that is what the account sitting rule is set up for.

what i dont like for example

player x hands his password out to 15 players and tells them to make moves for him whenever they see it is their turn. And than they wait until time is almost out to make it legit that they saw them about to miss turn. this is done in mostly team games so 1 player can make all the moves for the entire team and it seems to be being done with a certain group of high ranks and im sure it is all planned in advance. there seems to be a "circle of players" using this tactic. I wont mention names here, but im sure we all know who is doing this. so player x hands his password out to 15 players which includes player y and in return player y gives them theirs. than another player hands his password out to another 15 and etc, etc. So basiacally, alot of high ranks have access to a shitload of accounts that they make moves for which has nothing to do with account sitting. but like I said, turns are made at the last second to make it appear they are about to miss a turn. even this method might, and i repeat might be legit that a player was honestly about to miss a turn, but a huge percentage of this method is abuse.

player x sets up a game with player y and player z already knowing that he is not going to make a move in the game and is fine with this because he knows the other 2 players have his password.

thats not account sitting

I've always thought that some JR's standpoints are too (sometimes unacceptable) rigid. However, this post sounds pretty reasonable.

JR, I see your point, but given that that's totally not what happened here, I don't see your point. Ben had those pws in case of direst need. I don't think anyone could argue that the players involved needed some sort of Adult Supervision account access.

So, JOHNNYROCKET24, you're saying that I shouldn't post my password in public areas, even when that "public" area can only be seen by a specific group, or usergroup, of people?

WOW, that's so enlightening. Thank you for those words of wisdom. And here I was, just about to go and post my password in Callouts...

Thank you again, Sir Mr Pretend Mod / Mod Wannabe Sir.

i agree, but i dont think that is what has happened here, i think here we have a case of a bunch of folks that gave their passwords to someone they shouldnt have, and anybody that didnt know that benjis widow was capable of this is just the victim of having poor pattern recognition and get what they deserve, lol.

I'll tell you exactly what happened, so people don't have to postulate:

Due to the amount of clan challenges we play, and the fact that the majority of us are adults and have real lives with real commitments, we decided to create counter-measures to deadbeating. BENJIKAT IS DEAD, being the leader and someone who was on very often, was entrusted with the passwords of 3 players. That's it - 3 players - who trusted his ability to notice when turns were about to deadbeat, and who trusted his ability to play intelligently and not mess up the game. It is called account sitting, and is encouraged by the site to prevent deadbeating. The remainder of the clan members had private arrangements with other clan members, mostly 1 for 1 swapping of passwords when people went on holidays and such - ie - we paired up, so there was a 'you scratch my back I scratch yours' arrangement.

benjis_widow broke the rules the logging in to his account, retrieving the account-sittee passwords from a saved folder, and then logging into those accounts to point dump and ruin games. Everything that benjis_widow did is against the rules. Everything everyone else did is within the rules and encouraged by the site admin.

If you believe account sitting gets people what they deserve, then I hope for your sake you don't have a life outside of CC, because as soon as you go on holiday you're either going to be a hypocrite and get and account sitter, or you're f*cked and you'll deadbeat every game.

no no no no, you have misunderstood me, i was merely pointing out that this is not the first time that benjis widow has done things like this, and if it were me i would have chosen someone else to be my sitter, or at least make sure that he memorizes the pass instead of keeping it written down for her to find. i mean she hates conquerclub, he plays it, he saves passwords, she uses them to f*ck him and others. its very unfortunate for all of you, however you really really should have seen this coming. and after re-reading my post i dont know how in the world you mistook what i said for what you thought i said.

Alright sorry dude. We've had a few people thinking they'd get smart with us, that sort of thing.

Yeah we knew benjis_widow was bad news, but who on earth woulda thunk a chick could use a computer so well? 8-)

agreed..but why give a password to a player that had a wife with history of trying to lets say...not make things easy for benji? poor decision and judgement if you ask me. I laugh everytime something like this happens and its always the person that hands out his password that screams the most. Looking forward to next week and the next chapter of "handed out passwords ".
