I would suggest you pick the best idea and take it as far as you can. If the idea is good and the gameplay is sound, somebody will jump in and help.

Saying you have seven ideas suggests that whoever takes one up at this point will be doing all of the work - months of discussion about borders and bonus and many updates. I'd personally rather take a map that already has everything thought out and just render it - for example, eleven mapmakers made good Brazil entries in less than two weeks.

Download a copy of GIMP - you might be surprised how much you can do. I got started with a ten year old version of Photoshop.

Start here, http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

The thing about graphics is they often require anywhere from 30-100+ hours of work for the graphics person. It is a long and frustrating process. There have been quite a few map makers who have learned the graphics side as they go, constantly improving and by the end of a few months, have a quenched map, and a new skill set to boot.

We all got ideas... thats the easy part.

when i started making famine i only knew how to use Inkscape, and not that well. Now I know how to use Inkscape, GIMP, and Photoshop, all of which I have used at different times throughout the maps progress. If you need any help, just ask. Whenever I like an idea alot, and the graphix are super crappy and the person doesnt know how to use the app that well, the im always ready to spend 1-4 hours to help them.

I'd argue that good graphics are harder to get than good gameplay.

Until you have something drawn up - much more than a rough sketch - an idea is just an idea.
