[Official] Brazil REVAMP [Face-Off][Abandoned]

Ahoy Ahoy foundry! (Im not andy so I wont even pretent I am)

Many of you have been following the recent mix-up and confusion of the two Brazil REVAMPS in production in the foundry by both The Fuzzy Penguin and Lanyard. Now we all know the foundry can't very well quench two REVAMPS of the same map in a short space of time can we? After much discussion with Marvaddin (The cartographer of the current Brazil map) it was decided that we should have both the current REVAMP cartographers go head to head in a REVAMP competition, with the winner picking up the prize of taking on the brazil revamp.

During the two week preperation period cartographer are not allowed to post images of their work in the foundry.

The Fuzzy Penguin and Lanyard have until Thursday 14th February 11:59pm (Easter USA Time) to complete and submit there entries to my via PM. That is about 2 weeks from now. I will them submit a poll of the two entires to go under the public vote for one week. The image with the most votes goes on to be the OFFICIAL Brazil REVAMP with the other contender sadly being left to the foundry furnace.

It should be noted that both attempts should follow Marvaddins final conditions for the REVAMPS, if they do not meet the conditions they are not eligable for quench:

Marvaddin wrote:Allowed:
- change the artistic part, including textures, fonts, colours, background, etc.
- the changes should consider these:
* map needs a title.
* map needs at least a Brazilian national symbol.
* unpassable borders shouldnt be anything natural, like rivers, mountains, etc. The map is based in political borders, so these type of unpassable are not welcome.
- I could possibly allow little changes on SOME borders (this means, its not for any borders) to make room for armies circles or names. In this case, I should be informed, and I will say if the change is possible.
- Although the artistic part is mostly free to change, and should consider the foundry suggestions, I keep myself right to veto anything, although I intend to use just in case of things that are contrary / wrong according to Brazilian feelings (like, for example, signatures over the Brazilian flag, lol)

Disallowed:
- change the playability, although I can consider changes that are supported for a good number of foundry members.

Everyone, wish our two cartographers luck! :)

(NOTE: This is not an open competition only The Fuzzy Penguin and Lanyard and able to enter this competition)

------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE

9 February 2008

Fuzzy has official pulled out of the competition. Lanyard is able to run his own revamp by default.

well I don't like that

If we can't get a chance to vote again after they see the feedback, then we should at least be able to see them on the forum.

It'd be better if the 14th was a post and discuss day. Maybe then they'd be given a week to resubmit where the vote would take place.

This rule is basically a change to level the playing feild, Fuzzy has had months of a head start plus he's getting assistance, lanyard has jsut started and is flying solo :)

edit: There nothing stopping people helping out via PM

Actually he isn't....at least via PM he said he isn't...I won't post his assistant's name in case he doesn't want it revealed.

Plus, if I remember right, all the other revamps have been done this way, just open to anybody instead of just two people.

Yes they have been open competitions, but this is a different circumstance :)

I just meant about the not posting in the forums prior to them being posted on the day after the competition is over ;)

How about me and Fuzzy PM you the latest work whenever we have a big update and you keep it on the first post of this thread so people can PM us about our work?

Because that's not in the rules ;)

We are allowed to PM other people, and they are allowed to PM us, but the images are not to be in the foundry until the competition is over :)

I asked him. He said no, that he trusts us enough that he believes that we won't post anything in them :)

sorry about this post but I'm going to ask because the reasoning behind some of this seems very flawed.

1. Competitors ARE allowed to PM their images to people to get some help.
2. Competitors ARE NOT allowed to post their images in the foundry to get help.
3. This was done to 'level the playing field'

How does this 'level the playings field' exactly? I think a reasonable person would come to the conclusion that whoever knows more people will be getting more help via PM. A 'level playing field' would come when both competitors have access to the same feedback. This would happen if they were allowed to post their work in the foundry for anyone and everyone to critique.

And, just because both competitors agreed to the rule doesn't mean everything is being done correctly.

i agree. fuzzy (no offense man) has had a much longer time than lanyards to work on his map, as well as having lone.prophet to help. we all know this, so its only reasonable that lanyards and FP can both post so that they get the same amount of equal help to make this competition fair. all the revamp competitions have been like this and they have all been great.

Fellow Foundry Members,

I'm not quite sure how to say this, so I guess I'm just gonna throw it out there. I'm sorry if you don't like how I put it, but it's always best to just tell the truth like it is.

I've tried to work on the Brazil Revamp the past two days, and I just don't have any interest in it anymore. While I would still love to do it, but I don't really have the heart to push it through right now. I don't feel it is proper or respectful of me to complete a map that is half-heartedly created, and I don't feel the time of the foundry should be wasted when I am not able to deliver a product I am not completely behind.

It seems lanyards has a great attitude and heart towards the Brazil Revamp, and through the few posts I read in his thread before the competition started, he is really enthusiastic and excited about completing the revamp.

I feel at this time that he would be the better person for the job,and therefore I must concede from the competition.

I will definately still be active in the foundry, and eventually make another map, when I don't have as much crap going on in my life, but I think for now I just want to stay in the background, and help out with my clan (making sigs), and just getting more ideas off other people in the foundry.

This is an official withdrawl from the competiton, however I would like to take the time to apologize to a few people.
1) Gimil - You are running the competition and a moderator. Thank you for showing support towards me, and I am sorry to waste your time when you had to create a competition that is now incomplete.
2) Edbeard - You have given me insight and support/ideas from the beginning. Thank you for all you have helped me, and I apologize for all the time it seems you have now wasted critiquing my map when it is now not going to be finished.
3) Widowmakers - Even though you haven't said much in the forums for my map, you helped me quite a few times with any questions I had, and could always give me a tip or trick. I am sorry to have wasted all your time with the questions, but I will definately use what you taught me in the future.
4) Lanyards - I have probably made you rush through creating your map for the competition. I apologize for not giving you a worthy competitor for the competition, and I wish you the best of luck for the map (I know you will make it better than I could).
5) Marvaddin - What can I say other than thank you, and sorry. Thank you for the opportunity to revamp your map, and for the countless hours you spent with me on IM brainstorming and critiquing my revamp. I am sorry that I was not able to complete that map and wasted a lot of your time.
6) Lone.Prophet - You have definately spent a lot of time in the past couple weeks with me, and I am sorry that time spent is not going to result in anything productive. I am sorry to have wasted your time.
7) You (The Foundry) - I thank you for all the support you have shown me, and I know this map has been delayed longer than it should have been. I would like to apologize for it taking so long to complete, and I am sorry I have wasted your time and probably upset you now that I am not going through with the competition.
I am sure there are many more, but these were the main few that came to mind.

Like I have said, I would have loved to complete the revamp, but I believe gimil said it best when he told me that making a map should be a fun and exciting experience. I'm not really enthusiastic or interested in it right now, and that is why I'm dropping out.

Sorry to have wasted the foundry's time, as I am now not able to deliver a map for you, but I hope that won't change what any of you think of me.

I will be back, and you will like what I have.

Sincerely,

The Fuzzy Penguin
