Over recent months there has been a bit of a trend of off-topic discussion creeping into map threads throughout the foundry. I'd be grateful if off-topic conversation could be kept to the off-topics forum, or to relevant threads in the Foundry Discussions forum.

Let's keep the foundry in the business of making maps.

Cheers,

MrBenn

Whoa! Are you really insulting those of us who actually like the graphics, now? I think you've gone off the deep end, pork.
A lot of people have black-velvet Elvis's hanging in their living rooms. So, yes, (if you actually think these graphics are good), then you are indeed being insulted. And yes, imo, you are nothing but a "Yes" man.

The "deep end" is a misnomer. My art critique is an honest one. I am not in any way grinding any axes here. I will continue to give favorable critiques to the artist in question, when they are warranted. But if I think the work is a P.O.S. I will tell it like it is. And to be blunt, if you really think that the graphics are spectacular, then I will loose any respect for your opinion in the future.

:o Wtf, pork!? I'm losing respect for you. I think the graphics are fine, and I stand by my opinion. For heaven's sake, it's a goddamn cube, pork! If you think the graphics are trash, then what are your suggestions for fixing the it? So far, I've read nothing but blatant disrespect for paulk and the commenters here and you bitching about the graphics with no real means of helping paulk to see what needs fixed. You need to watch it, pork.

You should go back and read this thread. You will find that I already have offered some suggestions, and even spent 2 hours on an illustrated suggestion.

I have no disrespect for paulk. Where do you get this crap from ?

I am not "bitching" about the graphics. I am only stating my honest, and nonpartisan views about this artwork. I do not dislike everything that natty does, and I have said so on numerous projects. Can you say the same ? Can you show me one post where you are not utterly delighted with everything he does.

I do not appreciate how you cut and pieced together my quote. I did not say that I am loosing respect for you. I said that if you truly believe that this artwork is spectacular, then I will loose respect for your opinion in the future. Big difference, and nothing to jump up and down about.

Your intimidation attempt will not work. Who do you think you are telling me that I better watch it ? I am not a Yes man for you or anyone else. I am allowed like everyone else to, offer honest opinions. paulk can take what he will from the opinions of those that offer them.

There's a better way to go about criticizing someone's work, rather than bluntly stating, "it sucks". When I have a problem with something, I say so gently, then leave it up to the mapmaker to make the decision. Plus I have reasons to back up each of my suggestions/edits. At least quote your previous post about your "2 hour illustrated suggestion" or summarize your previously stated reasons. Saying that "it sucks" offers no help for fixing the problem and it in fact can just piss off the mapmaker. And why are you judging all of my future opinions solely based on this one? What warrants that? I wasn't intimidating you, I just think you need to choose your words more carefully, as I know at least I am very upset with you and probably the rest of those who thought the graphics were fine.

Yes, there may be a better way, and maybe I have ALREADY, said it all in a nicer way.
Sully,
You have not been around here very long, and you have no idea. To hear someone saying that "it sucks", is mild compared to the things that I have witnessed here.

These graphics do indeed suck. The balls suck. The sticks suck. The colors suck. The font sucks. The background sucks. I do not see anything about the graphics, that do not suck.

If this is too harsh for your sensibilities, I am sorry.

Natty is a big boy, and I think that he will get over it. Maybe he will stop and take a good look at this monstrosity, and see it for what it is. And, maybe he will put his talents toward giving it another shot. I would recommend that he start from scratch, and file this in the trash can, where it belongs.

Every artist, including myself, will inevitably from time to time, fart out a real stinker. If the artist can not, or will not, smell the stink on his own, others are forced to point it out. And, in what ever terms gets the job done.

edit- Please note that I am not attacking natty or paulk. I am only trying to suggest that it is the "graphics" that are holding this map up. The poll along with various posts point to this fact. So, just whip up a better picture. I think that if a really cool looking piece of art can be produced, this map will fly through to beta.

I try to live with this attitude as well, but if we are going to run any kind of decent Map Foundry, we should just keep in mind not to attack an artist personally. And if you feel strongly about one thing or another, feel free to voice your honest opinion, be it good or bad.

We!? WE?!? I don't think TBK and me have had a problem with personally attacking an artist, while you've gotten borderline. Whatever. I'm sick of arguing with you.

I am not accusing you of anything Vic.
I am actually agreeing with you here. My words WERE borderline, and maybe a bit on the sharp side.
