New Foundry Newsletter.

Hello, I have been working a bit and I think I have the basic structure down for a new foundry newsletter, since the old team has disbanded. Now, I need people to help me and I am looking for volunteers.
Below is some things that I would like to see in it, eventually.
  • An interview would be essential. Some questions could be submitted by regular people, but I would prefer to have it done by one person, so that a style is developed and so they improve as they go.
  • Tricks, Tips and Tutorials. User submitted stuff that people could use to help with their maps. Hopefully we will get a munch of submissions and we would pick the best one to feature.
  • Map Previews. A brief overview of what maps are going through the foundry and their progress.
  • Ask a Pro. Users could submit a few questions about map making that they want answered by an experienced map maker. The questions should be things that would be useful, not things like what is your favorite map.
  • My favorite Map... We will take submissions from people telling about what their favorite map is and why. They can be maps in development or maps that have already been quenched. The best one will put in the newsletter.
  • Competition. Each month there will be a competition run by the newsletter. There will be a theme or gameplay element and people will have to make a usable CC map from it. The winner will be featured at the front of the newsletter, and will be picked by the newsletter staff and maybe a panel of volunteer judges.
  • Reader submissions. This sections will be reserved for whoever wants to write any foundry related article. It can be discussing changes in the foundry, talking about potential improvements, or whatever. Just like the foundry itself, we welcome and need user submissions!

So, what staff will there be?
-An interview editor
-A foundry gnome or two (to do the Map Previews sections)
-A proofreader

If you think you could be one of the "pros" for the ask a pro section, let me know!

It will rely on user submissions for a lot! This means that a) even if you think what you have is not that great, send it in! and b) The staff member should be ready to step in and maybe write a discussion piece or favorite map piece when submissions are low.

If you have any ideas, send me a PM!

To apply send me a PM saying:
What position you are applying for, why you think you would be good at it, how much time you have that you could dedicate to this and what qualifications you have.

If someone was to start a new Foundry Newsletter, I'd start small and with easy manageable bits. Don't try to cram everything and then some into the first couple of issues.

There has been frequent talk about simply putting more info of the Foundry into the CC newsletter, so for you to succeed, start small, build up as you can. Try to learn from the previous newsletter incarnations (what worked, what didn't, what was more time consuming than beneficial, etc).

Best of luck.

That was sort of my plan. It will start small, but as more people begin to contribute things like tutorials, and ask a pro questions, we can expand as we go. Things like contests will come later, I just wanted to throw everything onto the table, and pull it back from there.

I'd love to see the foundry newsletter start up again; but would advise to start small as Andy suggested, otherwise you're almost certainly doomed from the get-go.

If you wanted to have a chat about your plans, feel free to drop me a PM or grab some time in Live Chat ;-)
