Similar Maps

Postby chipv on Tue Feb 03, 2009 5:21 pm

I've done a similar maps link on the database page (not published yet) and wanted to run this past you guys first.

Note this not a measure of complexity.

It is grouping maps having similar gameplay based on its tags.

Each group contains a list of maps which are described as having similar gameplay. No map can be in 2 groups.

1. AOR2, Fedual War

2.AOR1, AOR3, New World, Poker Club

3.City Mogul, Operation Drug War, WWII Gazala

4.Oasis, Europe 1914, Holy Roman Empire

5.Waterloo, WWII Ardennes

6. Pear Harbor, Arms Race, Greater China, WWII Western Front, WWII Europe

7. Supermax Prison Riot, Berlin 1961

8. Battle of Actium, Duck and Cover

9. Europa, Great Lakes, Imperium Romanum, Italy, NYC, Scotland, USApocalypse

10. Age of Merchants, American Civil War, Egypt: Valley of the Kings, Halloween Hollows, Madness, War Of The Triple Alliance

11. Asia, British Isles, Cairns Coral Coast, Centerscape, Circus Maximus, Draknor, Europe, San Francisco, Siege, Texan Wars

12. Conquer Man, Egypt:Upper, Malta, Philippines, Sydney Metro, Treasures of Galapagos, Forbidden City

13. Benelux, Montreal, Soviet Union, Tamriel, WWII Eastern Front, 8 Thoughts

14. Chinese Checkers, Discworld, Rail Europe, Rail USA, Space, World 2.1 , Rail Australia

15. Egypt Lower, Egypt Nubia, Midkemdil

16. Dust Bowl

17. Bamboo Jack

18. Ancient Greece, AUstralia, Doodle Earth, Haiti, Indochina, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mongol Empire, Netherlands, Portugal, WWII Iwo Jima, Madagascar

19. Classic Art, Canada, Caribbean Islands, Conquer 4, Germany, High Seas, Hong Kong, Middle East, Puget Sound, USA

20. Africa, Archipelago, Arctic, Brazil, Charleston, France, Iberia, North America, South America, US Senate, WWII Australia

21. Alexander's Empire, Classic Shapes, CCU, Citadel, Crossword, Extreme Global Warming, Iceland

Some of these probably need moving around but the idea is that if the tags are well defined enough , then it is possible
to subdivide the maps into groups with similar gameplay tags.

Comments , moving maps around, questions all welcome.

How are Classic Art and Classic Shapes not similar

Generally though, it looks like a reasonable list...

Yes, that came about because Classic Shapes has Naming Challenges but that can be adjusted no problem.

Footnote - you won't see similar maps like the above list on the database pages.

Each map page with have a link and clicking that gives you the list of similar maps.
