You can use Paint.net, but you're probably better off with a program like Photoshop.

Check out the mapmaker's handbook, it's a pinned thread in the main foundry.

You can use any graphics software, but you'll find a program that allows you to use layers much more beneficial in the long run, as you can change bits of an image on their own.

I use Photoshop, but that costs a bit of money if you don;t have it already. There are links to freely available programs here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1410 A fair number of people use GIMP, but I have no experience of it ;-)

[mod]This advice is actually sarcasim, come on mibi don't scare you newbies ;)[/mod]

I use CC Map Maker Pro 6, with the de-pixalizer add on. Takes about 45 minutes to make a map then I run the nitpicker filter and it cleans it all up.

really? where do i get it!? (seriously, I at first thought u were talking about a real program for a bit.... )

I use GIMP for all my projects. I started out using Inkscape though, which is a vector program. I suggest that you try out different programs, Inkscape, Photoshop, Gimp, Illustrator, etc, until u find one that works for you. If you learn most of the basics of Photoshop, then GIMP is really easy to use.

I was being facetious, not sarcastic. Sarcasm is for douchebags.

I just found out that while in CC MapMaker Pro, if you right click and then push the Any key it does the XML for you. Then to center the coordinates you can just take a chicken beak and tap the monitor where you want the army counts to go.
