a testing facility has been suggested soooooo many times and so far nothing.

that's why some map makers test them at home with friends.

i think it's the least lackattack should do to:

1. support his mapmakers that do enormous amounts of work for free, and
2. produce better maps for all users

further, i don't see that it's especially complex. you need:

1. a db flag on each map to indicate status ('test' in this case)
2. simple logic to hold test maps out of live play
2. the special ability for some individuals to set up games on test maps
3. simple logic that stops maps in test status from issuing points, or changing stats

maybe i'm missing something but in the scheme of things, for the value it would return, it seems a no-brainer

true words rabbiton but so far the request for a testing area has been denied or at least postponed until an undefined date. perhaps lack has other priorities because to be honest i'm sure he understands the advantages of such a facility.

the problem i don't understand is why it takes so long especially since testing is possible and it has been done before (for speed games or for the 7 and 8 player games)

despite lack's latest answer for allowing maps to be tested (see bellow) i still hope sometime in the future (hopefully soon) we'll have this possibility.

well, maybe hearing the word from some players might help... i've played many maps that i've thought "this should be great, but just doesn't play well".

who knows? maybe he will. anyway it can't hurt asking, i know i've posted this so many times i can't remember, it has been posted in the sugs and bugs, it has been requested by map makers by the cartos and generally everybody. it would provide a very usefull tool for map makers and it would ensure only top notch maps are produced which in return means higher service quality offered by CC to the paying customers, hence more money for lack. i don't know why he hasn't done it yet but i'm sure he has his reasons.

I'm not even sure why points shouldn't be counted, if that is part of the problem. I'm sure most people wouldn't mind risking a few points here and there to test out maps.

points definitely don't need to be awarded. many possibilities for abuse

I don't think so. If you only allow like 5 games, and only certain people (say, the mapmaker, oaktown, and some invitees), then I don't see how it would be abused.

Not that I think points should be allocated, but if it's a problem to not award them, I don't see why that should stop anybody.

I have always popped into the Foundry and popped out again! I used to be in love with it, but sometimes it justs get to argumentive. And im here at CC to have fun! Map makers are like chefs. Full of creative talent but need a lesson on how to communicate.

Being a long standing member of CC and alot more than most map makers here. I've seen the foundry change over a good year or so! one thing i will see is that its very inconsistent and that the carograther (gimil and oaktown right now) can and will effect the mood of the foundry.

OMG, do you remember Keyogi and his fixation with Qwert and his pixeled borders!

Hehe, you think you've seen the Foundry change in a year? I wouldn't even know where to begin in regards to the changes that have occurred! I'm not even sure there are too many people that remember an early Foundry...at least, those that participated in early Foundry. :)

If you are talking about within the first 6 months this site was open, then yes, I remember.
The foundry has improved a TON from that. It's so much better than it used to be.
