ahoy there, foundry folk!

it's been so quiet in here lately that u might wonder what we've been doing behind the scenes.

let us introduce... scenarios!

on the Start A Game page, u will see that u can select the Scenarios tab to view the scenarios available, from which u can choose one that u want to play.

to view a scenario before deciding whether to play, click on the double chevrons >> to see the initial drop, starting troops and starting neutrals.

an important difference between normal games and scenarios is that scenario games score no points. this is because some scenarios are deliberately set up to give an advantage to certain locations. for new games, the creator may change the starting troops for any scenario without notice.

having tried playing scenario games, why not design one of ur own? simply start a new thread in the drafting room whose title begins with the name of the map on which u want to base ur scenario, for example world 2.1 conquest, then request access to the beta site. u will be working only with troop numbers and colours, so u require no artistic talent!

questions:

When a scenario is created does it stay for as long as you decide or does it disappear when all player(s) joined?

Does scenario gives any gift or special token?

it stays there, so other players can also play exactly the same position. bW has not yet announced any special tokens, though i have a feeling that there's something up the sleeves of the community team!

Several months ago I made a scenario -- ColdWar1961 -- for 2 players -- human vs. human or human vs. bot. The title shows up in the list of scenarios on the "Beta" site.

However, I can't access it to make edits, or to play a test game. The beta site says that I'm not a Premium player.

It looks like Premium membership does not include membership for Beta testing.

It was my understanding that the beta site was an invite only site. I could be wrong as I haven't played a game in a few years.

Yes, you have to ask to be added to the Beta site, but almost everyone who asks is approved. It's not much of an impediment.

You also need to ask for Premium but once again, everyone is approved. Even if you are freemie on the main site you can still be premium on the beta.

I created a scenario "ColdWar1961" a while back (see above). It's a 1 vs 1 game (Western bloc vs. Communist bloc) with a lot of neutrals. The initial set-up reflects the historical situation.

I've tested it a few times (me vs. bot) and it seems to work okay.

However I don't know how to get it listed as an available Scenario for other people -- in either beta or alpha.

Can anyone help -- Dukasaur? DoomYoshi?

I think either iancanton or bigwham has to approve those for release. Not sure which now. Just write to both and see who answers first...

Coldwar1961 and Coldwar1962 are basically the same. However, Coldwar1961 doesn't work with the Bot opponent, I think because it has "Manual" army placement. Can you delete it and leave only Coldwar1962?

Also, the only option seems to be Human vs. Bot, not Human vs. Human.

However, as of this post, Coldwar1962 is still a Human vs. Bot game.

As of today I can always play "Coldwar1962" if I go to the beta site, but the only available option is Human vs. Bot. I think the scenario is fairly well-balanced -- the bot AI is hard to beat, sometimes. It's strictly a 2-player game.

Has anyone else been able to play that it? I would really like to know.

If it could be a Human vs. Human scenario, people might try it.

although i haven't tested this one, can i point out that hong kong is on the wrong side? it was british during the whole of the cold war period.

to turn ColdWar1962 into a human v human scenario, simply create a new one called ColdWar1962 Human or something similar, without using bots at all, as changing the dropdown from bot to human seems to fail every time.
