Canada Day is a momentous day in North American history. Under the Constitution Act (previously the British North America Act), the colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the United Providence of Canada collectively formed a single country called Canada. A day of celebration was held under the name "Dominion Day" up until 1982, until legislation was passed officially sponsoring and renaming the day to Canada Day. On this day, Canadians at home and all across the world celebrate the founding of their home.

Independence Day for the United States of America was a triumph for not just a revolution in a war sense, but in a revolution for democracy. The American Revolution was a historical precedent many would follow- the underdog had finally won, the colony overthrew her queen, and the Age of Empires would soon see its close. Colonies all over America soon followed suit- Mexico overthrew the Spaniards, Canada the British, Haiti the French, and a large part of South America would soon declare its freedom. And what a glorious declaration it was! Democracy was on the rise, the oppressed were now leaders, and the oppressors had been slain. On this day, not only do we celebrate for the end of a war, but for a new wave of freedom, liberty, and peace.
Dukasaur wrote:Canada Day is July 1st, and the U.S. Independence Day is July 4th. Both of them are huge holidays for our respective countries, and for those of us living close to the border they often merge together. Here in Niagara, for instance, there is a "Friendship Festival" in Fort Erie that spans the gap and celebrates both holidays, and in other border towns there are similar events. This year we have what is known as a "perfect" Friendship Festival weekend, with July 1st being on Friday and July 4th being on Monday, and many of the younger and/or more adventurous souls will be partying the whole four days through!
