Re: Government Money to Discriminatory Schools
Too many quotes to include.. see the above dialogue for context
So because one ultra-oppressive state failed that means all forms of oppression, no matter how minor, will also fail. Wut. What about Rome, Ancient China, pre-modern USA - they were all oppressive and yet they did extremely well for ...

Homosexual example: no you shouldn't care about what other people have the "right" to do. You are not them, therefore you cannot speak for them. If they a problem dealing with discrimination, it's up to them to solve it. Game over, insert coin to continue.

Re: Poll on Marriage and the Government Secularization of it
I can't actually vote in the poll, because I believe that the skyrocketing divorce rate is a result of "secularization", that is, society turning away from God, but government doesn't have a lot to do with it.

Teacher's get ridiculous benefits and practically all are incompetent. Not to mention that a higher percentage of teachers are pedophiles than even Catholic priests.

what do you propose to do about this fairness?
Nothing; its fine and dandy as it is. But it is the fundamental reason why I support some aspects of socialism/left wing politics such as government provisioning of healthcare, education, and some other things.

Re: Poll on Marriage and Government Effects on it
No-fault divorce destroyed the Afro-American family unit in the 60's. Now the majority of black kids grow up in broken homes. If you think marriage is all fine and dandy, chances are you're a disgusting racist.

Re: Government Money to Discriminatory Schools
"Rights issues", by which you probably mean institutionalized discrimination, can affect the population in a significant way, therefore your reasoning is flawed.

If you ignore abuse untill it targets your particular subgroup it is likely the abuser will be too powerfull to be stopped at that point.

Re: Government Money to Discriminatory Schools
Military atrocities are already tolerable - see Nagasaki/Hiroshima, Dresden, Agent Orange, etc. The only time they aren't tolerable is when a non-allied foreign country commits them. Well yeah, but your reasoning implies that those who protested Vietnam shouldn't have, because their tax ...

There's also the fact that if we became immortal we'd be far less likely to have children. It's already pretty much a law of demography that countries' population growth slows and pretty much stops as they become industrialized (pretty much because of contraception). That's why the UN projects ...

If everyone only took up issues that affected them in some negative way, any military atrocities would be tolerable, any corruption would be tolerable, most rights issues would never be properly handled, and almost all issues would never be debated.

Only if you live up to the cliche of a fat redneck raving about his tax dollars, as if he was any significant source of funding.
For everyone else, they can always take up issue with policies that actually affect them in some negative way.

Energy that doesn't come from renewable sources. (Partially an affirmation of Haggis' post)
I wish this were true.
Sadly, I think we will keep on with our current system benefitting those who are already in power, based on exploitation of the resources we have.
